Is Steemit fair?

After my post of yesterday, Is life fair? and the interaction I had with it I decided to take it one step further today.

Is Steemit fair?

Again, it is a difficult and also troublesome question to answers.

Just like with life most Steemians, including me, will say that Steemit is not fair.

• Not everybody gets votes
• Stupid photos get hundreds of dollars within minutes
• Good quality posts are often not the winning posts

If you are one of those who says Steemit is fair you are for sure on the winning side. Whatever you do, just don’t raise your hand.

In my post of yesterday I based the fairness of life on four things;

1. Experiences
2. Perception
3. Expectations
4. Emotions

All four of these are not only applicable to life but also applicable to Steemit.

Your experience might be the “thing” which tips the scale to unfairness.

Maybe you have not received support on your posts or maybe it is that you feel that your post didn’t leave the impression you thought it would.

I will be the first to admit that it has happened to me. I feel disappointed when I write a post and it doesn’t do well.

Merriam-webster.com explains “experience” as “the process of living through an event or events”.

Wow! I cannot describe the experience on Steemit in a better way.

What I have learned from my experience on Steemit is that we are all different. What might be good for me might not be good for the readers.
BUT I have also seen the other side of it. I once wrote what I will call in my words, a crappy post. In the end it was not what the readers thought. They loved it.

If you are experiencing that your posts are not performing like you want it to, change it. As easy as that. With my return to Steemit I wasted nearly a month of posting just a photo and short description every day.

I had to learn about “the process of living through the events” on Steemit.

In my eyes one of the biggest evils on Steemit is perception and it is for sure the main reason for Steemians to feel that Steemit is unfair.

If a Steemian is doing well the perception is that he or she is “the big cheese” and receives all the support.

Now if you watch the television program “Survivor” you will know that if you find an hidden immunity idol and the other contestants knows about it you’ve put a big target on your back. It is exactly the same with Steemit.
Somehow you want to do well but you also don’t want to as you can so easily become the target of perception.

It makes me wonder how Steemit, the company, feels about the perception about Steemit and STEEM from the viewpoint of other social networks, cryptocurrencies and blockchains. The so called “cryptoanarchist shortcomings” . Is the perception fair or unfair?

I am 100% sure that the scale tips to unfair.

Your expectations makes you believe that Steemit is unfair.

No matter what we do in life we all have expectations for doing it. It might not be willingly but I can assure you it is there.

♚ If you make your husband a cup of coffee your expectation is for him to appreciate it.

♚ If you can come home with a salary cheque at the end of the month you expect your family to say thank you.

♚ If you write a good post you expect to be rewarded for it.

There is nothing wrong with having expectations. In fact it is our expectations which drives us to push forward, which makes us excited and what gets us to write that fantastic post.

I have expectations and I am not shy to admit it. Does it make me feel Steemit is unfair? I don’t think so. For me it is my motivation to do better.

Let me take you back to the engagement challenges of the last season. In one week I was nominated by three of the communities as one of the three top entries they received. I knew the nail was in the coffin.
Although my next entries might be good the chances was slim that I will be nominated for a second time and I had no expectations thereof.

Is it fair? You might think the answer is no. For me the answer is yes! If I was a MOD/Admin on those communities I would like to give my nominee to someone else. A fair opportunity and inspiration for others.

As country representatives, curators and MOD’s you literally spend hours on the platform. If we had expectation to be rewarded for the work we do we would all fail miserably.

Unfortunately we have to learn and deal with it that expectations are not always rewarded, not even with a thank you.

Let’s call our journeys on Steemit journeys of “experiential learning” and turn our expectations into possible HOPE.

In Steemit’s own words;

“Steem is a social blockchain that grows communities
and makes immediate revenue streams possible for users by rewarding
them for sharing content.”

I just love the word POSSIBLE!

Life was not designed to be unfair. It was designed to be a blessing, a wonderful adventure which we only get to enjoy for a very short time.

Steemit was not designed to be unfair. It was designed as a social media platform to be enjoyed by authors and to be seen as a blessing for a potential income. Something we so often forget.

The last point, emotions.

The experts say that your emotions can run away with you. Man oh man! This is so clear on Steemit and again, I have to raise my hand. I can get very emotional and it often makes me think that Steemit is unfair.

Rewarding quality posts. Umh… What is a quality post? Is it one that is written in good English with perfect photos or is it a post written in terrible English with bad photos but written so that you know that it is the best that that author can give you?
Sue me if you want to but I go for the latter.

Do you know what? You cannot run away from your emotions. Not in real life and not on Steemit. We all want our posts to be loved, we all want to belong to a community or two, we all want to feel save and we all want that little bit of a praise for our posts.

In the end, does it really matter if Steemit is fair or unfair? No it doesn't!

After all, you still rule as the king on your chessboard.

My advice to you.

Put a second sticky note on your screen, on you fridge, wherever you find it best, that states that you must;

Write so that YOU enjoy it and that YOU can be proud of it!

Steemit was not designed to be unfair. It was designed as a social media platform to be enjoyed by authors and to be seen as a blessing for a potential income. Something we so often forget.

This is the right way it should be. Sometimes things go well and the other time it just go wired. However, we keep moving forward. Thanks for your motivational words. I have taken your advice to heart

Hello my friend! I hope you had an awesome day.
It is true what you say, sometimes things just go "wired".
In the end we are all human and we are all in control of our own lives and it is for us to take control of it. In real life and also here on Steemit.

Sure! And that is why we are still on the move. Taking control of our lives is what we should all do and not let something else control it for us.

I had an awesome day today. In fact, I have reviewed my day today. You can check it out here. Hope you enjoyed yours too?

Thank you, I had nice day.
You've got mail. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Quotation: "If you are one of those who says Steemit is fair you are for sure on the winning side."

Most of the people who start here are on the losing side at the beginning, but those who stick it out long enough will sooner or later end up on the winning side, unless of course someone gives up too early.

Since both occur here and the odds are usually the same, Steemit is fair in my view, even if fairness does not automatically protect against an initial dry spell that everyone has to overcome before progressing.

Okay, I enjoyed your reply! (•ิ‿•ิ)
I love your statement regarding the "dry season". I am sure that most Steemians are just too familiar with that.
You are right, just keep on doing what you doing and do it to your best. I was one of those who gave up many years ago. IF only I hadn't...
Thanks for the visit!

Good luck!

Yes of course Mrs @patjewell
Let's get used to writing

Thank you for going further again to explain your yesterday's topic. I think we will not be discouraged if we don't put more expectations on things. I have learned this and still learning it presently. Sometimes we think we deserve something, and when we don't eventually get it, we get disappointed.

Ah ha! Deserve... that is like a swearing word.
Why is that we often only think we deserve something when it is good where in fact deserve is for good and bad? We never think we deserve the bad.
As humans, we are such interesting characters.
Thank you for reading my post my friend. As for your engagement, it is always top notch!
