Assalamu Alaikum friends hope you all are well. By the grace of God I am also well. So now I come to you with an electrical topic. Where I repaired my friend's wifi router charger. I will show you step by step how to connect a new charger from a broken charger to a wifi router. Basically charger is very important device which should be kept very safe.
Keeping the router charger safe is quite important as it is important for the longevity and proper functioning of your router. Using the right charger ensures that the router receives the correct voltage and amperage to maintain its performance. Without the right charger, the router may suffer from overload, short circuit or overheating problems which can cause damage to the device.
So it is important to keep the main charger of the router in a safe place and take care of its protection in time. However, there are several reasons why a charger may fail. There are several common reasons why a router's adapter may be damaged. Briefly I mention a few reasons. Because it is important for you who use wifi router to know.
Fluctuations or spikes in power voltage can damage the electronics on the adapter. Sometimes the adapter can be damaged due to excessive power load. It is important to use an adapter with the correct voltage and ampere rating with the router.
Low-quality or local adapters can deteriorate quickly. So it is better to use branded and high quality adapters. However, the charger varies according to the router company. You have to adapt to these devices.
Lightning often destroys the router's charger. It occurs almost in most parts of Bangladesh. Using adapters in humid environments or very dusty areas is more likely to cause damage.
Basically repaired my friend's wifi router charger. So he called me and told me that his home router is not supplying power properly. The problem is that the net connection is dropping sometimes. So I went there and first checked if it had power connection. So I saw it's disconnecting the internet connection because it's powering off automatically, that means there's a problem with its adapter. As shown in the picture below there is no signal on the router so I cut the charger cable.
- Step - 1 :- The charger adapter in the image above appears to be the one that is basically broken. I cut the charging pin or cable on it. So that's why I bought a new charger from the market. It is a simple mobile charger. I will cut the charging pin on it and connect the charging pin of the router. Below are some pictures and details of the new charger.
charger name | PROTON travel charger |
---|---|
Output | 5V—500mA |
protection | over current and over voltage |
Price | 120 BDT or 7.5 Steem |
- Step - 2 :- Now it's time to connect this charger. So I cut off the pin on this charger and stripped the top of the negative black wire and the positive red wire. Then I connected the red wire to the red wire and the black wire to the black wire to the negative and positive wires of the previously cut router's charging pin.
- Step - 3 :- This should be done very carefully so that it does not tear. Because if it is torn, the charging line will be disconnected. So this is where I neatly put the two parts together and taped on top of it. Because if taping is not done, it will be exposed at the top, so there is a possibility of tearing later. See the picture below for how I did the taping.
- Step - 4 :- Once the taping was done I put it neatly in place as it now needs to be connected to the power supply. So I unplugged it from the mains circuit breaker and plugged the charger in and switched it on. Then it appears in the picture that it comes in line with the charger. Then it went on line to the WiFi MC. Internet connection is made from this MC to the router.
- Step - 5 :- Now it's time to see the final result. So you can see the picture of the router on the left side is the picture of the power connection disconnected or before repair and the picture you see on the right side is the picture of the electrical connection, which means it is the picture after the repair. After repairing it its internet connection is showing properly. Which you can see if you notice the red signal light on the right side of the router.

The previous WiFi router adapter had an output of 5 volts or 2 Ampere. Then I connected the new adapter, its output is 5 Volt or 500 milliampere. Maybe it has less amperage than before. But it fits. Use the adapter with the correct voltage and ampere rating supplied with the router. An adapter with the wrong power rating can damage the router. Do not let the router get too hot during summer.
In this case, turn off the router occasionally and let it cool down. Use strong passwords to secure the router's WiFi and admin panel. This prevents anyone from outside from using the connection unnecessarily. Following these can make the router work effectively for a long time. As of today, this electronics topic post ends there. I have completed this task successfully.
Great post! Your detailed step-by-step guide on repairing a WiFi router charger is very helpful, especially for those of us who like to take a DIY approach to fixing electronics.
