in STEEM FOR BETTERLIFElast month

Dear Diary,

I have been longing to write you and tell you about the activities of my day, and thank goodness, Wednesday, October 3, 2024, was full of economic and agricultural activities, so I feel it's nice to tell you about them. I visited my village to supervise palm oil processing, check my palm tree plantations, and have a look at my farmland. I am in the palm oil processing business which is a kind of inherent business, and I have opened up my nature of business in my business posts hosted by dove11 and aviral123. Let me tell you about the activities.

VISITING PALM OIL PROCESSING MILL AND PALM TREE PLANTATION

I left my house with my wife and daughter to go check how the workers were going about with oil processing at 11:59 am. When I got there they were almost through with the process. But let me tell you a little about palm oil.

Palm oil is a saturated oil produced from palm fruit and in this part of the world, we use it for cooking, and a soup without palm oil may not be considered delicious. Its high level of consumption makes palm trees economic trees, and because of its high level of demand, many venture into the palm oil purchasing business, and few in the processing business.

We processed the oil using the local method of processing, and believe me we produced the best palm oil. The following are a few steps to producing palm oil;

  • Separate your palm fruits from their bunches

  • Cook the palm fruits till they are soften

  • Pound the fruits or grind the fruits, but the pounder or grinder should be such that do not break the nuts.

  • I compressed the ground palm fruit to separate the oil from the chaff and nuts.

  • Dry water from the oil for preservation.

The above steps are just a few steps to producing palm oil, but I will make a post and show the steps in pictures. This time, we produced 75 litres of palm oil which is about ninety thousand naira, that's about 333 steem in the current market price. The reason for less in litres is that palm trees don't bear much fruits by this time of the year.

Another thing special about palm fruit is that the nuts are used for other processes like producing cream for the body.

After this, I visited my palm tree plantation to see how the little trees were doing. The trees were planted 2 years ago by me and my Dad, and they have already started producing fruits. If your locality permits, you may wish to venture into the business, and believe me, you won't regret it.

VISITING MY FARMLAND

When I was through with everything concerning palm oil, I visited my farmland. I have a very big farmland, and on it, bananas, plantain, yam, and okra are planted. I visited it to check how my crops were doing.

Banana and plantain plantation: In this part of my farmland, plantains and bananas are planted. These are among the major foods in this part of the world, and we use the banana to prepare porridge, and the plantain can be cooked together with beans. The demand for these fruits is high. When I got there, my bananas bore fruits, and I harvested one.

Part where okra is planted: I planted okra in some parts of my farmland. Okra is an essential vegetable in this part of the world, we use it in cooking soup, and this makes its demand high. When I got there, the okra bore fruits and I harvested it.

In this farmland, there is a part where we plant yam. Yam is one of the major foods here in Nigeria, and this makes its demand high. It is not yet the season for harvesting yam, which would be around December.

My farmland is subsistence farmland, where farm produce is planted for my family's use.

This Day was one of the best days I have had. It was full of economic and agricultural activities, which are what I have done since infancy.
