Weekly Reflections #30: What makes a place feel like Home?
Hi everyone, here's my thoughts on this week contest, it's a lovely privileged to share my insight on the topic what makes a place feel like home.
Home is a union made of loved ones living under the same roof,it can be siblings, families, husband and wife. What make this union a home is the fact that they share a common boundary of belief, and looking out for others in terms of help and support.
What makes a place feel like home |
---|
a place feel like home when it provide comfort, support and a sense of belonging. couple with the happiness ones derive from an environment at a given period of time,we can all relate to the tender affection and love we experienced growing up as children,we all had this affection of love from our parent, siblings and neighbors, looking out for our well being and helping us in the area we need support. On rare occasions a church can be described as our home, due to the charity activities that goes on there.
More over, the atmosphere of a home is different from other internal and external environments, meaning that we can't compare the feelings of being at home to being in school, work place or church etc, I remembered when I was 12 Year old, every festive period ( 25th December ) which happen to be Christmas,we normally visit the village which is made up of the extended family, the joy of seeing our uncle and aunt, our cousin and other relatives together, eating, discussing and doing a whole lot of memorable things together, this bring a sensual feeling of belonging to a home.
Yes that's what a home is suppose to be like. Our home in other words seems to be our comfort zone,at a point different individuals have to leave their home, either for work purposes or schooling and etc,the feelings the find their self in another environment will be different, considering the fact that, you get to meet with strangers who aren't related to you by blood.it will be an environment where the individuals mine their own business, compared to a home where we look out for each other's need.
A home can be form basically not only by blood relative,an environment where the might be differences in race, religion and gender, comes together sharing a common goal, for instance a roommate, friends can form a home either a happy or a sad one.
Let take for instance, a team of footballers staying in the same camp, with a specific goal to be executed, the training session, breakfast and dinner moment, and leisure hours, that sense of belonging feeling alone makes that gathering a home.
Home basically need a moralize features to make it a happy home, not all home is a happy one.the this phrase,"MY home is on fire,or, I don't have a happy home" it's actually more common with the married couples, this occurs when the is absence of love, comfort, commitment and tolerance; it brings about unhappy home and vice versa. Growing up to be an adult, ones has to leave his or her comfort zone in other to build up his own family (home) it takes a tough process, you will have to combine the morals you were thought at your initial home,to form another, people do take home as a house, which isn't so,house is a physical structure, the occupants of a house, that's made up of a home .
According to the African popular quotes,it is usually said there's no place like home. Indeed home is the safest place you can ever be.

I wonder... would anyone dare join if the home was a scary unsafe place to be? I wrote about that fact in 2024 and agree with you, most of us don't have a home which is safe enough (yes, you said that) so it doesn't make sense that you end saying: Indeed home is the safest place you can ever be.
I would say: beware me, it can be one of the most scariest place where (sexual) abuse and violence is all that one awaits.
It would be good if you reread your text because I read a lot of contradictions.
