The barriers for women and girls to participate in sports is certainly not uniform across the nations. The barriers that are cultural and religious in origin are probably what makes up for the main differences.

In some countries these cultural and religious barriers are being broken and women and girls are taking to sports gradually. Saudi Arabia is an example of a country where cultural and religious norms restricting women's and girls' participation in sports are being set aside. Here are some news articles chronicling their achievements:

Saudi cyclist says it takes a ‘brave heart’ to normalize the sport for women

Saudi women’s football team defies stereotype

What is it like in your country? What are the barriers for women and girls to participate in sports? What is being done to overcome them?
