The Pressure To perform well in school

Good day, everyone. I am new on this platform and i want to talk about the pressure of performing well in school. I am very sure almost everyone here has been thtough schooling one way or the other. I am in the university, still going through the schooling process and i must say the pressure to do well, to perform well can be a little choking. We might have all experienced this pressure to do well from our parents, peers or teachers..

What's the meaning of academic pressure?
It is defined as an experience in which a student is burdened by the demands of time and energy to achieve specific goals. It is known to have impacts on students both emotionally and academically. Academic pressure can have positive or negative effects on a student. There are varieties of unwanted effects that a young person can develop from academic pressure. It can cause a person to experience emotional and/or physical symptoms of stress. E.g

  1. Anxiety
  2. Inability to relax
  3. Changes in appetite
  4. Sleep difficulties
  5. Abuse of stimulants like coffee, or drugs.

It can also cause

  1. Obsession with grades
  2. Extreme competitiveness
  3. Working constantly
  4. Social isolation
  5. Loss of interest in previously enjoyed hobbies.

I experienced and i'm still experiencing some of these because i am burdened with achieving the goal of maintaining a first class grade till i graduate. I worry a lot about my grades because i'm scared of disappointing my parents and those who trustnin me to do well. It's not easy doing that as i have to put a lot of effort in my projects and assignments and always have to study. I am the type of person who have to read or study constantly for it to stick and retain in my memory. So, i experience a lot of stress and hardly have any time for friends or other hobbies. I decided to do some research and know how i could help myself better and here's what i learnt.👇👇

How To Deal With Academic Pressure

  1. Manage your time wisely.
  2. Make a schedule on your homeworks and projects due dates and when you want to complete them.
  3. Squeeze out time to rest or take a short nap as it's very essential.
  4. Reward yourself for studying. You could do that by treating yourself to snacks.
  5. Take short breaks in between studying
