RE: CURATION REPORT (steemit) # 90 for @R2CORNELL'S DISCORD COMMUNITY

in R2cornell2 years ago (edited)

We have a growing African following, most notably from Nigeria. If you look at previous posts on blurt (remember we have three curation accounts, each with their own report), you will find post highlighted from some some of out Black followers. Personally I prefer to focus in on quality of posts and not their ethnic background, their country of origin or their religious beliefs.

My curators are from Nigeria, Venezuela, Chili and Indonesia. I have never got the feeling they were focusing on one group, but rather some of the best posts that they could find during the particular week or weeks highlighted.

I thank you for suggestion because it does have some merit. When you think over the number of posts our curators look at each week and curate, many go un-curated which is unfortunately we cannot cover everyone. And then our reports are limited to some of the best for the week or 2 week period.

I am sure there is some bias in our selections, because we are humans. When I did these reports I had a weakness for flowers and landscapes. If you look at the many posts I have done in the past you will see where my bias comes from. I am sure there is some of that going on as our curators are at work. I would rather see the biases be more related to content than the author.

I started my first curation project on Steemit when I was realizing that some ethnic groups were being overlooked. I tried to keep that in mind as I was doing the curating. It was to aid those groups in growing on the platform,. This continued on to hive, and finally on Blurt.

Here on Blurt my experience as a whole, all groups have been welcomed with open arms. So I believe you are in the right place. Using the term "black" is such a broad term, that could point to many different cultures. I am observing growth in the number of new users coming from the African Continent. There is a lot of outreach in bringing groups from there to Blurt, with some excellent publications being presented on the platform. maybe as this continues there will be more that will make it to being highlighted in our reports.

We here on these platforms have opportunity to come together as one people (, steemians, Blurtonians or a similar word used most often). It is the opportunity for us all to learn from each other. Learn about each others cultures, and way of life. We do this without the propaganda that all governments put out. I think it was 5 years ago I began my journey with Steemit. I have met so many wonderful people from all walks of life and learned more about their way of life and what drives them or motivates them, that it is been an acting journey.

We can change the world... I just hope you can see more clearly our goal (or rather my goal) for what we are doing. And that nobody is internally ignored by our projects. I appreciate how you presented your suggestion. I am glad you made it.
