The dates (Parabola)
Source
Once upon a time there was a man about sixty years old in the desert near an oasis, who no matter how hot the midday heat made a hole in the ground.
Those who passed by laughed at him and said:
-The heat has driven him mad.
A very rich man passed by, and when he saw the man's attitude, he was very curious and decided to go and ask him
-What does a good man do?
This one answered
-Sowing
-What are you sowing?
He answered
-Dates
On hearing this the man said
-Sir, do you know that dates take more than fifty years to bear fruit?
-Yes, I know.
-And why do you sow such a thing, if you don't have to eat it?
-Because I have just eaten many dates that someone sowed and never ate, so I thank you for your gesture. We can't just live in the moment, we can't just think about ourselves, we have to leave something for when our body is gone.
On hearing these words the man said
-He just taught me a great lesson and I'll give him this bag of gold for it. Continue your work, good man, for people like you there are dates to eat.
This one received it and said to him:
-For doing a good work God has rewarded me, I have not finished sowing and I have already harvested a bag of gold.
