Buying my favorite vegetables Corn and Auyama
Hello dear R2cornell Community
Corn is an extremely popular food source, especially in the Americas, and is often ground into flour and used to make a variety of dishes, from arepas to tortillas.
Dishes that can be prepared with corn include :
Arepas or tostadas
Fundamental in the Venezuelan and Colombian diet, they consist of round corn flour dough rolls, which are eaten roasted or fried with various fillings.
Cachapas or chorreadas
Typical of Colombia, Costa Rica and Venezuela, and with a strong presence in the Canary Islands due to the exchange with the latter nation, it consists of a kind of pancake made of corn flour and tender corn grains, eggs, salt, sugar and a pinch of wheat flour, which is eaten filled with white cheese, curd, custard.
Tortillas
In Mexico and Central America, corn flour tortillas are made and then fried, grilled or accompanied with different contents, depending on the dish: tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, flautas, etc.
In addition to being a delicious food, auyama has multiple healing properties, also known as pumpkin in other countries, it is a berry with a hard shell, it belongs to the cucurbitaceae family and is native to America, its plant is a creeping herb with large leaves and the fruit can be round or oval, green or yellow in color.
The Auyama brings many benefits to your body, among which are some against:
Anemia
By eating the pulp of the pumpkin, this natural supplement becomes an excellent tonic to combat insufficient energy in children and the elderly.
Arthritis
The pumpkin is a great alkalizing for the blood, because it helps to release uric acid and improve circulation throughout the body.
Angina pectoris
People suffering from angina pectoris or who have suffered a heart attack are recommended to eat pumpkin 3 or 4 times a week in different dishes and presentations.
