More From the Garden: It's Apple Harvest Season!
The days are starting to get shorter, and we can feel the mornings getting a little bit cooler.
In the garden, apple season is upon us!
We only have two trees, and they were here when we moved in, 15 years ago, so we don't know exactly which kind of apples they are.
The red ones are excellent for apple sauce, compotes and apple butter; the green and pink ones are firmer and make outstanding pies.
And they are also really good eating!
That's a large recycling bin. We've filled it several times!
In spite of there only being two trees, we seem to get an exceptional harvest every year, more than enough for our personal needs, as well as for giving away.
Part of the fun of having a vegetable and fruit garden is being able to make things and share with others.
Originally we started the garden because we really like fresh fruits and veggies, but with the pandemic and lockdowns sometimes making food supplies uncertain, we feel a little bit safer, growing our own.
Many more harvest pictures to come in the weeks ahead!
Thanks for stopping by!
