Final Harvest: Pumpkins — The Garden Fades Into Winter
As we continue to draw further and further into fall, our garden slowly dies back for another year.
The final thing we harvested was pumpkins!
Here's our laughing dragon mascot with some freshly harvested "sugar pumpkins;" these are the ones that are really good for cooking and pies.
That one looks like it's ready to come off the vine, as well.
You can let them sit on the ground for too long once the rainy season starts, or they will start to rot.
You can actually pick them when they still have green patches, and they will continue to ripen for a month or more.
We are planning to have them all in by the end of October.
As you can see, pumpkins are not solid orange, they have a delicate network of veins.
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope to find more time to post, in the months ahead. Gardening takes a lot of time and effort!
