A Wreath
Ruslana loved walking along the river. Especially in early summer when the lawn was full of wildflowers, in the morning when the dew washed the feet and the air had a fresh smell - and no fuss around, just this beautiful sunrise…
Isn’t it wonderful?
Once she picked up one flower, then the next one and still the next one, Ruslana started to weave a wreath thinking about something personal… Yet, in ancient times, the wreath was the most favorite outfit of every Ukrainian lady. This extraordinary piece of art was a sort of a book of the lady’s soul, and through it, everyone could learn what she had in her heart...
The flowers of the wreath were a special symbolic language in which people would express their feelings, attitudes, life events, hopes and aspirations. ”What would I weave into my wreath?!“, uttered Ruslana out loud.
I’d probably weave into my wreath a lovage as a sign of my loyalty. I’d add the twigs of blossoming cherry and apple trees that symbolize my faithfulness, a bit of hop as I’m a sly fox, and a couple of twigs of viburnum that symbolize my beauty and health.
With all this in mind, Ruslana didn’t notice how she’d finished weaving her wreath. ”Yeah, at a first glance it may look very ordinary, but if you look closer, you’ll see in it the main flower that’s supposed to be in the wreath of a single lady – a chamomile as a symbol of girl’s purity…“ – uttered Ruslana as she put on the wreath and rushed towards the dawn.
