On the Account of the folks

It's not easy if you are forced to live on the account of your parents. I know because I've been in that situation and till today my mom pays the rent although in the past years, I slowly took over the rest of the bills. For longer I was jobless and it wasn't easy. Not for me and my mother because she paid for 2 households. Did I have a choice? No. I have had more job interviews than the average will ever have but I did have a handicap which was being too highly educated for all those jobs. For years it was hard but around 2019 the tables turned. Employers no longer cared and neither did I (I never did it's just money to pay the bills I'm not interested in making a career in the fields I worked).
Today I have a job I once applied for and the answer was no. The weird thing is that I am still around after those years while the average employee leaves after a few months if not weeks. So the one they didn't want (me) turns out to be the best and most loyal employee to be. One that made many improvements and is willing to train new coworkers (they don't pay me for that).

My financial situation is more stable and mom wants me to save first because, during my jobless period, I had to live from the savings she gave me on my 18th birthday. Like said she still pays the rent but I do pay all the other bills and give her a share of my income as well. It's not much but this way we both are okay and both don't suffer too much. We don't have loans or debts and if a bill should be paid we stick our heads together. My job is not full-time so no big income but a plus is my food is for free and I have time left to do what I like most.
To those who have to live with their parents (again) I can only say treat them well. Once an adult they shouldn't be responsible for keeping you alive and giving them that extra burden. If you are in that situation and jobless help out and don't treat your parents as your servants.
