Phylloscartes paulista, also known as the Sao Paulo Tyrannulet, is a small bird species that belongs to the tyrant flycatcher family. It is endemic to the forests and woodlands of southeastern Brazil, particularly in the state of Sao Paulo.

The Sao Paulo Tyrannulet is about 11-12 centimeters in length and has a distinctive olive-green plumage with a yellow belly and throat. It has a short, slightly decurved bill and a prominent white eye-ring. This bird is known for its melodious song, which consists of high-pitched, whistled notes.

Phylloscartes paulista is typically found in the understory of humid forests, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. It is known to be a solitary and shy bird, often difficult to spot due to its small size and cryptic plumage.

This bird species is currently classified as "near threatened" due to habitat loss and fragmentation caused by deforestation and urban development in its range. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining populations of the Sao Paulo Tyrannulet and preserve its natural habitat.
