Look who we found!

My boys and I were working hard on a project this afternoon. Part of our labor was to move some very heavy concrete slabs to use them as stairs for our root cellar stairwell. While we were moving them, I looked under a smaller piece of concrete and found this beautiful, nonvenomous snake. It is a Ringneck Snake (Diadophis punctatus).

They are grey on top with a small ring around their neck, but their underbelly is a whole different story. As you will see in the photos that I took below, the belly of this serpent is an impressive orange which can also have black spots on it. We really like these snakes, and they are harmless and small. We released it into our garden. Enjoy the photos!
