How To Prepare "Pinakbet" in Quick and Easy Steps

Good Day Steemians!

Today, I will be sharing with you a new recipe for a vegetable dish that we called here in the Philippines as "Pinakbet".


Pinakbet is made from mixed vegetables sauteed in soy or fish sauce, which originated from the Ilocos Region of the Philippines. The name of the dish is derived from the Ilocano word Pinakebbet which means shrunk. It is called so because as the vegetables are heated or cooked, their water content drains that they begin to shrink.

So, let's get started!


Ingredients



QUANTITY ITEM
1/2 Kg. Squash
1/2 Kg. String Beans
1/4 Kg. Okra (Ladies' fingers)
1/4 Kg. Eggplant
1/4 Kg. Spinach
1/4 Kg. Pork
60 ml Oyster Sauce
30 ml Fish sauce
1 bulb Garlic
1 medium-sized Onion
Pinch Salt & Pepper

Preparation


1. Cut or slice the vegetables in uniform sizes such as the Squash in the same thickness, the String beans in the same length to ensure even cooking.





2. Preheat the pan. Sautee onion and garlic in oil, then add and seared or brown the chopped pork in the sauteed onion and garlic. Make sure that the onion softens before adding the pork.

3. Add the vegetables to the pan. Sturdier ones such as Squash should go in first. 7 minutes should be enough to initially cook this. Then, add the remaining vegetables. Sequence them according to how long they take time to soften. Stir.

*You may add water if you want a saucy "Pinakbet".

4. Cover the pan to cook the vegetables entirely.



5. Season the dish with oyster sauce, soy/fish sauce, salt and pepper. Stir.

6. Once you got the desired taste of your "Pinakbet", add the spinach or other leafy vegetables of your choice. Stir.
