Torta Catalina / Catalina Cake

¡Saludos! hacía mucho tiempo que no publicaba pero mi hija me ha convencido de regresar a la blockchain, algo que me gustaba mucho y me trajo una experiencia muy grata por la interacción con las personas que me leían. Por ello, tratando de recuperar el ritmo que en un tiempo había tomado, les traigo una receta de una torta artesanal a la cual le llamo Torta Catalina, por su sabor parecido a la tradicional Catalina venezolana.

Greetings! It had been a long time since I published but my daughter has convinced me to return to the blockchain, this is something that I really liked and it brought me a very pleasant experience due to the interaction with the people who read to me. For this reason, trying to recover the rhythm that it had once taken, I bring you a recipe for an artisan cake which I call Torta Catalina, for its flavor similar to the traditional Venezuelan Catalina.




Ingredientes / Ingredients

  • 250gr papelón o panela
  • 500ml de leche
  • 1 huevo
  • ½ cucharada de bicarbonato
  • 500gr de harina de trigo leudante
  • 100ml de aceite vegetal
  • ½ cucharada de canela
  • 250 gr Papelón (hardened sugar cane juice)
  • 500 ml of milk
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tablespoon of baking soda
  • 500 gr of leavening wheat flour
  • 100 ml of vegetable oil
  • ½ tablespoon of cinnamon




Preparación / Preparation

Colocar la panela con la leche en una olla y llevarla fuego alto, procurando mover constantemente hasta que derretir la panela.

Put the papelón with the milk in a saucepan and bring it to high heat, trying to move constantly until the papelón melts.



Vaciar la mezcla en un bol, agregar la harina poco a poco mezclándola con la batidora.

Empty the mixture into a bowl, add the flour little by little, mixing it with the electric mixer



Aparte licuar el huevo con la 1/2 cucharada de bicarbonato, agregar a la mezcla y seguir batiendo.

Separately liquefy the egg with 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda, add to the mixture and continue mixing



Agregar poco a poco el aceite y por último la ½ cucharada de canela.

Gradually add the oil and finally the ½ tablespoon of cinnamon.



Una vez obtenida una mezcla de consistencia homogénea, vaciar en un molde previamente engrasado y enharinado.

Once a homogeneous consistency mixture is obtained, pour into a previously greased and floured mold.



Llevar al horno a fuego alto por 15 minutos, verificar la cocción al introducir un palillo a la mezcla y que este salga seco. Esperar a que enfríe un poco y desmoldar.

To take to the furnace to high fire for 15 minutes, to verify the cooking when introducing a toothpick to the mixture and that this comes out dry. Wait for it to cool down a bit and unmold.



Es una torta con pocos ingredientes, económica y de rápida cocción, con el sabor dulce y tradicional del papelón es ideal para acompañar una taza de café o un vaso de leche.

It is a cake with few ingredients, inexpensive and quick to cook, with the sweet and traditional flavor of the papelón is ideal to accompany a cup of coffee or a glass of milk.
