Unreal Engine 5 video display from Epic Games, New Generation of Gaming Graphics Technology for PS5
Publisher and game developer Epic Games has just announced its newest game engine, Unreal Engine 5.
Unreal Engine 5 is certain to be present on PlayStation 5 through games created by relying on a graphical technology base.
"We have just released the first appearance on Unreal Engine 5. One of our goals in the next generation is to achieve photorealism (graphics) equivalent to CG (Computers Graphics) films and real life, and place them within the practical reach of development teams of all sizes through tools which is very productive, "Epic Games said on its official blog.
Epic Games also uploaded a demo video of the appearance of Unreal Engine 5 technology through Lumen in the Land of Nanite, PS5 on the YouTube channel.
This demo features two new core technologies that will debut at Unreal Engine 5.
First, there is Nanite technology which performs virtualized micropolygon geometry to create as many geometric details as the eye can see.
Second, Lumen as a solution for global lighting that is fully dynamic reacts to changes in atmosphere and light.
Lumen can change the angle of the sun, turn on a flashlight, or blow a hole in the sky, and indirect lighting will adapt according to circumstances.
To showcase the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games put together a demo that runs on the PS5 version.
The result is exceptional visual quality, combined with detailed and photo-realistic lighting.
Excerpted from The Verge, Unreal Engine 5's immediate aim is to help developers start thinking of games as holistic products that can exist anywhere, from smartphones to high-end gaming PCs.
Epic Games said Unreal Engine 5 will not be released until early next year, first as a preview early this year and then as a full release late in 2021
"Epic is designing for future compatibility, so developers can start with next-gen development now in Unreal Engine 4 and move the project to Unreal Engine 5 when ready," the company said.**
