🌄 ADVENTURES 28 - Sailing (Thailand) - A land of vivid contrast
This is the fishing village of Baan Ampur, very close to my apartment. I had the most delicious sweet and sour prawns at a small restaurant near the river. The waiter didn't speak any English, so I had to practice my Thai. It wasn't easy but I clearly remember the huge grin on his face when I told him the meal was "Aroi Mak Mak" (very, very delicious)
The easiest and cheapest way to get around in Thailand is on a "Songthaew", which is a modified pick-up truck. The name means "two rows", referring to the two rows of seats in the back. They drive up and down the main road and most of them have a bell you ring when you want to get off.
This is one of the beaches near the ocean marina. In the distance you can see the city of Pattaya.
As always, the food is delicious!
Thai beer is also excellent and highly recommended.
Even the most rundown restaurants and hotels have free wifi and sometimes even on the beach!
This is the main road, near my apartment, that connected my village to Pattaya (and on to Bangkok).
Most of the time I preferred to walk along the beach whenever possible, though. Thailand is a wonderfully diverse place, with traditional fishing villages right next door to high rise apartment buildings.
Finally this is the night market, right across the road from my apartment. Lots and lots of delicious food. I tried to be adventurous in trying new things but there are certainly some very strange "treats" as well - like seaweed jelly (ew!). See you on my next adventure!
