It's OK to have a different opinion.
Did you know that there is more than one way to accomplish a task?
Did you know that your way might not be the sole, only and definitive way to solve an issue?
Did you know that this world is full of people with different views, experience and though processes that might not run in the same direction as yours?
Did you know that you can get the same result using a lot of different approaches?
Really!!!
If you did know all of this.
Congratulations.
You are part of the minority that realizes that other people have valid thoughts and opinions that might counteract your own but does not necessarily mean that they are wrong. This is a rare and valuable perspective on life that appreciates difference of opinion and realizes that you can learn from other people’s approaches.
I always maintain that total equality is nonsense. We are not all made to be equal and nor should we be. I believe in equality of opportunity but not trying to level every person, race, sex or religion into the one line. We are not the same and we never will be all the same. Our differences are important as long as they are celebrated instead of attacked.
Life would be a very boring place if we all looked, thought and acted in the same manner. If we all believed the same things and used the same language. That doesn’t sound like a good thing to me.
Over the years I have seen many good projects fail due to the total belief by some parties that success can only be achieved by doing things their way. That they and only they know everything and all others ways are wrong. It has been the failing point of many great ideas that couldn’t hold up in the face of diversity of opinion.
If I asked you to give me a math equation that equals to 420, What would you write down?
419 + 1.
421 – 1.
210 x 2.
Someone might like to show off and say,
20 + ( 10 x 50) – 100 ect....
You could keep this up all day. The only real goal is to get to where you are aiming for. Getting to 420. Some will get there faster, some slower, some will take the long way round. It doesn’t really matter. There are a lot of ways to get to that point and as long as they get there then they are all valid. The problem lies when people refuse to consider any another way of getting there apart from their own. Refuse to consider that the other way might be better or faster. That their way might not even be right.
The bigger the group, the bigger this issue. Two people are far more likely to agree than ten. Ten people far more likely to agree than one hundred people.
For me, the only thing to worry about is getting that end result. It can be done one way or the other. We can work together or do it in our own way. Nobody needs to be attacked for thinking about it differently or doing it a different way.
If you can’t accept another way then just stick to your own. Don’t worry about how other people are looking at the problem and just focus on your solution. Unless they are tearing down your solution it’s nothing that needs to concern you. Just let them work their way and you work yours. If you are an enlightened individual you might try to work together or learn from what others are doing.
That would be the true measure of success.
