Those who have children will know what I mean when I tell them that seeing one's children sleep produces a very special, almost sacred feeling. It doesn't matter how active, happy, sad, playful the children had been during the day; but seeing them sleep gives us peace. I am sure that in some language there must be a word to describe that feeling. For now, in the languages I speak, it is a feeling without a name.

Aquellos que tienen hijos sabrán a lo que me refiero cuando les digo que ver a los hijos de uno dormir produce una sensación muy especial, casi sagrada. No importa que tan activos, felices, tristes, traviesos hayan estado los hijos durante el día; pero verlos dormir bajo cualquier circunstancia nos da paz, estoy segura que en algún idioma debe existir una palabra para describir esa sensación, por ahora para mí, en los idiomas que hablo, es una sensación sin nombre.

Since I have no words to express it, I decided to make this illustration, of one of my daughters and both of them at the same time, sleeping, dreaming, flying.

Como no tengo palabras para expresarla, decidí hacer esta ilustración, de una de mis hijas y a la vez las dos, durmiendo, soñando, volando seguramente.

The Process / El proceso

Like the most personal illustrations and drawings I've ever done, this illustration was first born into a hand-drawn drawing.

Como las ilustraciones y dibujos más personales que he hecho, esta ilustración nació primero en un dibujo hecho a mano.

Then, I drew the line in a digital way.

Luego, dibujé la linea de forma digital.

I added flat colors. I chose a color palette from the beginning.

Agregué colores planos. Escogí una paleta de colores desde el principio.

I put the flat black background on to focus on the sleeping girl. I added shadows.

Volví a colocarle el fondo negro plano para concentrarme en la niña durmiendo. Agregué sombras.

I moved the position of the bed and added details. I painted the areas between the shadow and light with a pink tone and I put the layer in overlay mode. This gives a more vivid effect to the shade.

Moví la cama de posición y agregué detalles. Pinté las zonas entre la sombra y luz con un tono rosa y coloqué la capa en modo superpones. Esto le da un efecto más vivo a la sombra.

More details, a few simple lines, and voila.

Muchos más detalles, unas simples líneas, y listo.
