Introduction

Hello my fellow Nigerians, hope we're all good. Today I'll be participating in the current contest . Without further a do let's get to business.

As some of us may know energy in the field of science is defined simply as the ability to do work. As some of us also know it has been proven that energy can neither by created or destroyed but can be converted from one form to another and be utilised to do work and achieve so many things and this is achieved with the aid of science. We use energy in our everyday life to survive, to cook with the stove, gas, electricity, to drive cars, walk, power an electric bike all requires energy but in different forms. But it depends on the physical capacity and technical build of the body to do the work. Work can be defined as the energy which is transferred to or from a body or system when force is applied in the direction of displacement.

Energy exists in different forms, and these different forms of energy are categorized into two;

Potential Energy;

This is a form of reserved energy, which is dependent on the on the position of the different components of a system. Types are; Gravitational Energy, Chemical Energy, Nuclear Energy.
Elastic potential energy,

Kinectic Energy:

The Kinectic energy of a body is stated to be the energy which that body contains as a result of it motion. Types are; Mechanical Energy, Light Energy, Thermal Energy, Sound Energy.

Now going down to the part which brings us to the major focus of the contest

Sources Of Energy

There are also numerous sources of energy, however they're categorized into two, which are the Renewable Source and Non Renewable Source of energy.

Non-renewable Energy:

Non-renewable source of energy can be explained to be those energy sources which when used cannot be replenished or reproduced easily. In other words you can say that it is a finite source of energy which does not replenish at the same speed at which it is being used up or consumed and sometimes don not replenish at all. Examples of non-renewable sources are natural resources such as, Crude oil, coal, natural gases, etc. One of the major problems man is yet to face is the challenges which will occur when these resources are completely depleted, considering that in recent times man depends mostly on these natural resources for our major supply of energy.

Renewable Energy:

Renewable energy on the other hand can be explained to be those energy sources which when used can be replenished or reproduced easily. Therefore it is not wrong to say that this is the exact opposite of non-renewable energy, when energy is used up or consumed from the renewable sources it replenishes just as fast as it is being used and it cannot be depleted. Examples are solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, and biomass energy. It can only do mankind good if these energy resources are fully utilized and dependance on non-renewable sources are shared or shifted to the renewable resources. Already renewable energy is being harnessed but it's potentials have not been fully utilized.

Solar Energy;

Solar energy is the process of using sun's radiation to produce heat energy or generate electricity. Analysis by scientists have it that the the amount of radiation the sun releases on Earth, when utilized will comfortably cover the world's energy requirements both presently and future requirements.

Hydroelectric power:

Hydroelectric power is a source of renewable energy which produces electricity from the flow of natural water bodies like seas and oceans.

Wind Energy:

Wind energy which is also referred to as wimd power is a source of renewable energy where the wind is used to generate electricity or mechanical power, using wind turbines.

Biomass Energy;

Biomass is the process of using plant-based materials to generate electricity and heat energy rather then using them as mare fire fuels or wasting their potentials. Examples are wood, energy plants, farm and household residue.

Geothermal energy:

Geothermal energy source of renewable energy which involves the process of collecting the heat within the surface of the earth and converting into other energy forms. E.g generating electricity.

Benefits Of Renewable Energy To Man and His Environment

1. Reduction In Speed Of Approaching Global Warming

Man's everyday activities including scientific exploitation and research is constantly getting our atmosphere polluted with carbon dioxide which is a major emmission of global warming alongside others. When these gases get into the atmosphere, aside the health damages it causes, it traps heat and if not controlled in the near future may result to certain natural disasters like drought, storm and extinction. However this is what will happen if mankind continues to depend largely on non-renewable resources, the renewable resources have no or zero effects on our atmosphere since there are no gas emmissions,thus making it the most healthy for man to utilize at this point.

2. Unending Supply Of Fuel;

As we already know renewable energy replenishes naturally just as easily as they're being used. Which is unlike non-renewable resources, man would run out of these natural resources some day including crude oil, coal and other natural gases and when that happens what becomes of our gas engines, this would result in a great increase in the price of these gases. However this can be avoided with the aid of utilising renewable resources. The sun, water, wind etc will surely last for as life exists and considering that they replenish just as easily as, using energy obtained from these sources to power our engines would mean an unlimited supply of fuel for our engines.

3. More Healthy Air and Water:

The engines man uses for transportation, for constructions and farm work, yes they are efficient but they're slowly killing man. The carbon emitted from these engines does not just deplete the ozone layer but continually pollutes the air man and other breathing creatures breathe, also pollutes water bodies and when the cloud gets heavy with carbon and gases, when it rains we have what we know as acidic rain which would also pollute our water bodies and soil. Renewable Energy does not cause the emmission of gases and neither does it pollute our air or water. I can only hope that man embraces renewable energy as fast as possible and begins using it's energy because it's importance and it's benefits cannot be over emphasised.

4. New Job Opportunities

Considering the facts that lots of countries are currently trying to minimize their dependants on fossils and non-renewable energy sources. Some areas of the world are doing their best to contribute to the reduction of the global warming, knowing the dangers and what is involved. Therefore the government and some influencial private individuals are focusing on exploiting renewable energy sources to stop the depletion of the ozone layer and to help make the world a better place. Regarding this there are lots of new companies with the aim of providing renewable energy, statistics have it that in America these companies employ up to 3 times as much people as fossil producing companies. Therefore I need not speak further on the job opportunities provided by renewable energy.

5. Reduction In Energy Bills:

Renewable energy does not just help protect our environment but also helps us minimize how much we spend on energy. Buying fossil fuels on a regular basis to power our engines and get electricity in our homes and businesses can really take a toll on our wallets compared to renewable energy. Recently there has been massive increase on the price of crude oil and people have to spend more money in order to get fuels to power engines. Consider an entire state which uses windmills or the solar panels to produce energy and generate electricity in homes and offices and also to power engines, do you think the current hike in the oil price would affect them, they would use the money to be spent on oil to build other sectors of their economy. Therefore reducing how much money they have to spend on getting energy.
