Ecology and habitat

Good day dear Nigerians it is a privilege to post in this community once again after sometime and this time I want to talk about Ecology, habitat and some adaptive features in animals due to habitat.

First of all what is Ecology?
Ecology is defined as the study of plants and animals which come in contact to one another in relation to the environment.
An environment can be defined as the some total of biotic and abiotic components that affect an single organism in its place of living.

Note: Biotic factors are living organisms that interact with one another while abiotic factors are non living components that surround living components. They include physical factors, chemical factors, topographic factors and edaphic factors.

Now what is habitat?
Habitat is a place where plant and animals otherwise known as living organisms stay. Examples of habitats are;

1. Aquatic habitat e.g Ponds, stream, lake, rivers and oceans
2. Terrestial habitat- These are on land e.g field, air, forest, desert.
3. Arboreal habitat- These are on trees.

Let's consider the adaptation to habitat

Plants and animals posses features that help them change to their environment.

1. Some aquatic animals or plants have the ability to adapt because of their; Fins for swimming, Gills for breathing, webbed feet for swimming and air filled leave stocks for floating. E.g are Fish, reptiles and water lilly.

2. Some land animals can adapt because of their; Limbs, Legs, feet for walking and jumping. E.g Man, goat, lion etc.

3. Some air animals find it easier to adapt because of their; Wings for flight e.g Fish,birds,bat and insects.

Note: An ecosystem is described as a stable ecological unit consisting of a community of living organisms interacting with one another and abiotic factors surrounding them

An ecosystem consist of

1. Flow of energy
2. Recycling materials
3. Food cycle
