Shattered; The Impact of Broken Promises

Introduction

"It's a promise", "I promise" .... Are one of the most popular phrase in our world today. However, should I believe, is it worth believing in, why is it always broken and many more are the questions that regularly follow these words. Thanks to @steem4nigeria, these questions would finally be answered.

Let's see what I think about promises as I follow the contest guide questions. Comments and reviews are very much appreciated...let's begin already.

Question 1: What is a promise? Give three (3) common reasons why promises are broken

🔸 What are promises?

Promises are verbal or written statement showing commitment to do something. A promise is made to show seriousness and willingness to do something no matter the obstacles that may hinder the person.

🔸 Why are promises broken?

They are many reasons why a promise is broken. However, we will limit it to three as this contest demands. These reasons are;

• Inability to source for the means to keep up those promises: when it is impossible to find the means or resources to keep the promise, the promise naturally breaks.

• Unthoughtful Promises: promises made on a whim without even thinking through most times leads to broken promises, hurt and disappointment.

• Unexpected circumstances and Unexpected events: sometimes a promise is meant to be kept but circumstances such as death, accident, loss of resources, emotional attachments and so many more can lead to unfulfilled promises.

Question 2: Have you ever experienced a broken promise? How did it make you feel?

Many times I have. It sure hurts but I try to understand as much as I can. Afterall were humans and we're always bound to fail.

How do you handle broken promises? Do you confront the person or let it go?

It depends on the situation where in find myself. If it's worth reminding the person, I do so gently and warmly. If the promise still can't be kept I simply let it go.

Question 3: Do you believe that some promises are meant to be broken? Why or why not?

Promises are meant to be kept. But certain situations prevent a promise from being kept and at points like this, I choose to let go.

Question 4: What steps can be taken to rebuild trust after a promise has been broken?

Trying to make the person who is being promised understand why the promise is not kept is one big way of starting. Trust is built easily after all.

Making further promises that would not be met should sure be avoided as this would only tear both parties apart.

Conclusion

Make promises your sure to fulfill and whenever a promise fails, don't take it to heart, just remember humans are not infallible. I invite @emmyjnr, @whizzbro4eva and @nsijoro to participate in this contest
