Some participants got to learn about this spices from their mother and grandmother, some from their grand father. I personally got to learn about some spices from my mother, sister, friends, from the internet, books and everywhere.
We also had a lot of health benefits and my area of interest was the issue of mesurment and quantity to be used when cooking.
The measurements for my local spice is not specific because at times I use the grounded ones and if I am to measure, I make use of my tea spoon, for example if I am cooking stew or pepper soup for the family I use like 1 tea spoon in each of the spices. @mesola
Still on mesurment @okere-blessing also support the fact that spices do not have a standard mesurment.
There is no generally accepted quantity,it only depends on the quantity of what you want to cook and your taste bud. For instance,if I'm cooking three cups of rice I can use 4pepper, 2seeds of garlic, small piece of ginger, small cury leaf and small scent leaf. @okere-blessing
@anowarhoussain could see a link between the use of bay leaves and cold or cough.
This masala has a special benefit. That is if someone has a cough. And if it's too cold. Then two bay leaves. If you leave it in boiling hot water and drink that water. It is possible to get rid of cold and cough. @anowarhoussain
Generally, participants were of the opinion that spices are food items that gives our food taste, flavour and has some great health benefits.
This spices are sometimes used as drugs or food colouring a good example is the colouring effects of tumeric.
