Steemit Engagement Challenge (SEC)| S12W5- "My Skill Takes Me Up"

One of the greatest asset an individual can have is the possession of skills. I say this because, once a skill is acquired, it becomes a part of an individual which is very difficult to erase. Sometimes, to some people, it becomes a habit. I am one of those who advocate learning a Skill.

This week's contest helps to understand the importance of skill acquisition and I will be using the contest tips to explain more on the topic @drhira @karianaporras and @mesola, please come and join this contest

In your opinion, what do you think a skill is?

Skill can be defined as putting into practical application the knowledge that you have acquired. This knowledge is mostly related to physical skills but is also applicable to virtual skills, those that will be done mentally.

So it can also be described as the ability to do or execute a particular task very well.

So acquisition of skill enables us to live a positive, simple and creative life. It Provides us with the necessary adaptability for any kind of situation we may run into in life, helping us to become successful despite all odds.

In your country, is a skill or skills needed for daily survival, or is not needed?

Ordinarily, that should be the case. When I was growing up, I was taught to learn a particular skill to survive in life. Various skills ranging from medical skills, hair stylist, teaching skills and so forth.

These skills are very important and necessary for day to day survival in my country. So skills are a necessity to survive.

Those who have skills are those who are even surviving more in my country. I know of an engineering company who retained an employee after laying off several employees just because that one is more skilled than others. Even though her didn't attend any higher education, his skills has been putting foods on his tablet despite all odds. He is highly valued in that company. This has reminded me about an account in the scriptures

Have you seen a man skillful at his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before common men. (Proverbs 22:29 of the holy scriptures)

One good thing about skills is that you can always move with it wherever you may go to because it is in you.

Tell us some skills in your country that are so resourceful.

There are so many skills that are important and resourceful in my country.
I will go ahead to mention some of the major skills everyone should possess for daily survival.

Some of these skills are:-

° Technology Skills.

This is very important as the country is having a major reliance on technology when it comes to their business operations.
This form of skill includes but not limited to cybersecurity, software development, data analysis, artificial intelligence, etc.

° Sales and Marketing Skills.

There are demand for sales and marketing professionals to drive product acceptability and increased revenue. This have also gone digital with examples like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc, all being avenue of promoting sales and products.

° Financial Managers

These are needed because various business requires their finances to be efficiently managed for them to be successful.

° Project Managers

Coordination and organisation is a must for the success of any business even in our personal lives. So Project Managers are needed to ensure projects are finished on time and within the allocated resources.

° Skill in leadership and human Management.

It is said that managing people is the most difficult aspect of management. I personally would attest to that fact. So having a good leader and not a boss, would greatly affect productivity and growth among workers and teams.

° Interpersonal and Communication skills.

Being able to interact effectively is an important skill. This effective communication skill is important for strong interpersonal relation amongst individuals working on the same project. Efficient writing and verbal skill is required for the smooth running of any project.

° Managerial/ Enterpreneurial skills.

Having this skill also implies being a risk taker, ability to be innovative and having the ability to solve problems. This is very important to succeed in any business.

° Legal skills

For a country like mine, one needs to be legally equipped to survive the rough business climate. Where this is not available, the business may collapse within a short period of time due to several litigations, regulations and policies.

° Skills in the medical and health sector

There is an ever growing need for this skill in my country. This is due to constant migration of health and medical skilled workers to other countries in search of greener pastures. The need for people with this skill cannot be overemphasized

° Teaching Skill.

This is another sought for skill in my country and very important in every society. They are responsible for producing the future workers, entrepreneurs, professionals in various fields and so on. Unfortunately, they are the least paid.

These are just some of the skills that are very resourceful.

What skill do you wish to learn and why do you want such a skill.

I will love to learn trading and investment skill. Whether it be crypto trading, forex trading, fixed asset investment or the likes.

Why do I opt for this?

Having observed the situation in my country over a long time. I have seen that possession of a skill that would require employment before it is practiced would not be too favorable for me. Employment process is mostly done based on whom you know. It is not a fair and just process. That is why we still see so many with such skills still languishing in serious poverty.

Additionally, much emphasis is placed on certificate obtained rather than experience acquired. So the main people with such experience and skills are not being regarded because of not having a certificate backing them up. So they will end up working under someone with no skill and experience, yet taking all the glory that comes from execution of the project.

Due to high unemployment rate, these skilled workers payment are not commensurate to the effort they spent. So it is not even much interesting to learn them except if it is to be used on personal ground.

Trading and investment skills does not require someone to hire you or to patronize you before you make a living. Once you know the desired trading skill, you can run on your own without being controlled by anyone, or do anyone determine your profitability or earnings.

Conclusion

Acquisition of skill is important in everyone's life. It helps an individual to be self reliant and independent. Skills learnt can never be forgotten and can be used as a means of providing for yourself.

Moreso, your children can also be taught the skill you possess to help them to make a living in the future and be better equipped.
