Neglect of Responsibilities in Most Families

It's no new thing that most families neglect their responsibilities in pursuit of something or excuse of another. They say lack of money, some say time, some say inability. Should these be the reasons why a parent should neglect his child? When I see the rich giving birth to 2-3 children or even 1, I'm amazed. They are the ones that have much money capable of raising even 10 but they have birth control.

Now let's look at the poor, those that barely have enough to feed themselves talk more of feeding children. These families that have little means are the ones producing children like factory. They don't even have to take care of themselves but have multiple. They end up abandoning these children for slavery or may not even have enough to feed them. Why and what?

Neglect of responsibilities in a family simply means failure by members of a family to provide the expected basic needs or emotional support needed for the proper functioning and betterment of the family vis-a-vis a functional society. Neglected by parents means the failure of a parent or other person with responsibility for the child to provide basic needs of a child such as food, clothing, shelter, medical care etc also failing to interact with their children,not providing any supervision for their children. It could also ignoring a child's emotional needs, failing to comport their children,showing no interest in their child’s education.

A sibling responsibility to his peers should include being a good listener, supporter and a source of inspiration/motivation,he should makes his siblings understand that families have good and hard times,he should also enjoy spending time with them.

I have never been neglected by either my parents or siblings.I have seen quite alot of kids who are being neglected by their friends and family. Neglect of Children may lead to stunted physical development of the child,affects the child's brain and lead to psychological problems; such as self low esteem, which could later lead to high risk behaviors.

** Neglected children** can have physical injuries like fractures or severe burns that go untreated, or infections and other signs of lack of care which will affect their physical well-being and state of health.

Parents are society moulders, they represent the future. Children take after their parents as such it is being encourage that parents should not neglect their children for whatever reason. Parents should practice disciplining their children in a calm and thoughtful way. Correcting the children in a polite manner if they are wrong, there should also be a reward and punishment system to instill discipline and deterrence.

Children need love and support, parents should desist from verbally and emotional abuse and must also protect their kids from all from of abuses. Children who have been neglected need more love and support so as to address the gap created as a result of the neglect. Therapy is also recommended for them as a form of treatment to help them overcome the trauma experienced as a result of the neglect.

Children can also form a support group to assist each other.Keeping good company is also a way of dealing with neglect. I personally think the society should play a lead role in addressing the issue of neglect of Children. Non-governmental organisations,faiths groups etc can also help in addressing this issues.Government legislations like the Child rights Act will go a long way in addressing the menace.
