Drawing an Octopus.

Despite the fact that an octopus is not my ideal pet, I have immense respect and admiration for this remarkable creature. Renowned for their impressive escape artistry from aquariums, the octopuses have demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills. Most octopus can solve complex puzzles, they can untie some knots, open jar covers to get food or escape from it, they can even access the content of some toddler-proof bottles.

Their intelligence is often compared to that of a child, with some studies suggesting that they possess cognitive abilities surpassing those of most 5-year-old kids. The octopus's impressive cognitive capabilities and adaptability make them a fascinating creature.

  • Some octopuses have been observed using tools, such as collecting and using shells to craft a shelter for themselves.
  • Some species display advanced memory and learning abilities. Resulting in a debate, if they are actually intelligent.
  • Did you know that one octopus has 9 brains?. One for controlling each arm which maks it eight, and one that coordinates all so they can work together, the brain assigned to an arm is called a ganglion. The brain of an Octopus is very big when compared to its body size. I just wish I had an extra brain for each of my fingers. Animals have all the good stuff.
  • Octopuses have even been known to display playful and curious behaviour.
  • They can change their colour or body texture as a form of camouflage so as to blend with its environment. They can change into a solid colour or assume a pattern which helps them survive predators or enhance their hunting. This makes it an advanced skin-shifting chameleon.

Habitat
Octopus inhabit diverse marine environments from shalow water like coral reefs, mangrove swamps to deep oceanic ridges. They prefer areas with either socks, sand, mud or vegetation.

Their food
Octopus are generally carnivorous molluscs, they are best described as opportunistic feeders because they feed on a lot of things, they hunt fish, feed on dead animals like scavengers.

What do we need when drawing an octopus?

To draw the octopus, i had to make myself comfortable with all needed materials in place. Below are the items I made use of.

Item Qty Description
A Guide 1to look and draw
Galaxy A151Capturing the steps
Plain Paper1used as a canvas
HB/2 Pencil1for sketching
An Eraser1for cleaning errors
Colour pencils1for colouring
The Procedure

Step 1 [Preparing the Canvas]

I had my drawing paper cut and ready for drawing.

I started the drawing of my octopus with my username at the bottom right corner on the plain paper.

Step 2

Next was the octopus's head known as the mantle, this is that big bulbous part. I added a few arms at this point

Step 3

At this point, I drew in more arms, which looks like tentacles. Because they walk with it, i am sometimes tempted to view it as its legs.

Step 4

Adding suction cups to the arms makes it look more like an octopus.

Step 5 [Shading ]

Addind some pencil shading to the octopus

Step 6 [Finishing]

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
I just love the details in the drawing even though you've not a professional. You make the drawing look more like an octopus with body parts like the enlarged head. Thanks for sharing. Appreciated.
