"SEC | S20W1 | Spreadsheet Essential For Beginners (Spreadsheet Overview, Spreadsheet Interface & Basic Formulas)
It feels good to be making my very first entry into the engagement contest. I trust it going to be an amazing ride this season. I decided to start my first entry with lessons on spreadsheet. I want to appreciate our dear teachers for putting this lesson together. Let's me get right into the tasks.
In a laymans explaination, spreadsheet is a digital sheet/worksspace that help with data presentation and organization usually in tabular format. This is possible in because it contain rows, columns and cells and some other characters which includes numbers, alphabet and functions.
Spreadsheet can be used on a computer system via spreadsheet software which should be installed, it can also be used on mobile devices. All you need to do is to have it downloaded on your mobile device.
• Aids Data Analysis: Analysing data has never been this easy with spreadsheets. I mean spreadsheet make data analysis seamless and well organized. You can tell by just taking a glance on a typical spreadsheet data.
• Visual Representation:Spreadsheet also has an amazing feature of visually representing data and this it done through the use of graphs and chart so that information or result can be gotten at a glance.
• Aids Calculations: Spreadsheet is efficient when it comes to carrying out activities related to calculation in fields like Science, Engineering and Accounting that prioritizes calculation.
• project Management & Planning: it has also be proven that spreadsheet can be used in this field for maximum productivity.
• Suitable for repetitive task: Spreadsheet helps carry out task that has some repetitive actions. It automates it and save you from carrying out the task repeatedly which leads to fatigue and monotony.
• Saves time and energy: This point is a subset of the point above. Since it has the ability to automate and create short cuts for repetitive task, it also equally saves time and energy.
• Productivity & Efficiency: You get enhanced output when compared to doing data entry, sorting and all manner of analysis manually.
• Menu Bar : Menu Bar is like a go to for carrying out actions in a spreadsheet. It includes the insert , formular, home etc
• Grid & Cell: We can't have a spreadsheet without grids and cells, these are the very elements that makes us a spreadsheet.
• Rows & Column Simply put, this is the vertical and horizontal dimension of a spreadsheet. It makes it looks organized and easy to work on because they are earmarked
with elements like numbers and letters for ease of access
• Formular Bar: This is the part of the spreadsheet that help us with creation of formulas for our data. It also reveals what formula have been used in a cell.
There are many other features like workspace, name bar, cell address...just to mention a few.
A | B | C | |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Name | Maths Score | |
2 | @ruthjoe | 60 | |
3 | @bossj23 | 65 | |
4 | @sahmie | 59 | |
5 | @okere-blessing | 79 |
• Deriving my Sum Function With the above table will be by using =SUM(B2:B5)
. This means we are adding up B2, B3, B4, B5. Below is a visual representation.
• Deriving my Average Function with the above table will be by using =AVERAGE(B2:B5)
.This means we are adding up B2, B3, B4, B5 and then get the average of the sum total. Below is a visual representation. my average function
In this section I will be identifying the cells below, and also fill them with the colours designated in the homeworks task.
Cell | Outcome |
---|---|
N16/Black | |
J8/Yellow | |
B5/Green | |
G12/Purple | |
D1/Orange |
Here is a visual table contain the scores obtained by 15 student in different subject.
We would have to Introduce the Sum Function to give us the total score for each student in their various subject.
So I will be using the =SUM(B2:E2)
. This means add up B2, C2, D2, E2.
I continue by modifying my formular in the following sequence .=SUM(B3:E3)
=SUM(B4:E4)
=SUM(B5:E5)
=SUM(B6:E6)
etc. The result is as seen below in the F2 - 15 column.
I believe I've been able to do justice to the tasks in this lesson. Nevertheless,am open to correction and suggestions on how to improve with my homework task. Thanks you so much our dear teachers for this well delivered lecture. I look forward to attending the next class. Just before I leave, I would love to invite @radleking @rakiya @ruthjoe.

Thanks for the support @wilmer1988
De nada suerte.
Saludos 👍🇻🇪
You have explained everything very well and I find your work very impressive, but I have learned a lot from your work and what's more, I feel that you are able to teach every cell. Different colors have been done but you have spent each screen shot separately and it looks very good and you have completed your work and you have got remarks. Much liked and inshallah we have many prayers for you from my side and you get further development
Thanks for your beautiful comment on my post, it's much appreciated. Will be looking forward to reading your entry as well.
