”...A man I love, or a man who loves me?!” Jade was deep in thought again, but this time not because of the depression that was engulfing her. Her life had taken a whole new turn after her graduation from the university. It seemed like the world was against her and left her behind.
”Everyone is doing so well” she sighed. Some got married, some with jobs, others left for their Masters, but here she was in a corner of her room with no job, and completely broke. She missed Uni life, and all the pocket money she used to get then. She missed her friends too, and their chitchats. They were all busy now, too busy.
”At least Femi is here” she thought aloud, taking her into another series of memories. Femi had only been in her life barely a month. He cared so much about her, she knew that. He would call twice a day and send gifts to her too. He was also a good listener and very straightforward too. She liked him. No, she liked his attention. She liked how he was there for her but it seemed too fast. Just a month and he wants her to meet his parents!

*”Maybe this is my escape. Maybe people don’t marry anymore for love. Mum always compare me to my mates, so maybe I’ll be out of her way and her house of course” She pulled out the pink knee length gown he had gifted her earlier and paired it with her black wedges shoes. She had light makeup on and put on her wig after brushing. He was going to pick her up to meet his parents for dinner.
His mum was really nice, she even gave her a warm hug before they left. Jade knew they all liked her, but she wasn’t so happy. She didn’t want to be unhappy in her marriage as well.

”I’m getting married” Jade typed in her old group chat. Her female friends had created that while in school and it always bubbles with gists and gossips till after graduation. It wasn’t even up to 10 minutes and Pat made a group call so they could hear all about the man.
”Do we know him? Is he nice? Is he rich? Do you love him??” They we’re almost talking at the same time! She missed those times. ”No, I met him after school. Yes he’s really nice. You know I’m not after money but he is. I think I do, I don’t know”... The call went on for over an hour and when it ended, Jade was convinced on what to do. That night while she lay in bed, she knew Femi and her deserved better than an unhappy marriage.

Just before she slept off, her phone beeped, showing a new text message from Femi.
Please can I pick you up tomorrow after work? I have a surprise for you, I’ll be cooking too! She knew this was her chance to end things, but how do you break a good man’s heart? She wondered, drifting into sleep.

Check out next week for the second part.
