Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 29: Happy New Year!
It’s 2024, and WE MADE IT! Hello amazing Steemians, Happy New Year to you. Hope you took out time for yourself and loved ones! I’m glad to have you here and I hope you enjoy my content.
What are your favourite New Year traditions or customs? |

The New Year tradition usually begins before the 1st in my home! Few days to the new year, we work together to deep clean the house and also declutter as well. Household items that haven’t been used in months are usually given out and old/worn out things are replaced with new ones. This takes hours, so we split it into portions and round off before the new year. Deep cleaning could be so stressful but it’s therapeutic doing it as a family, gisting while doing the work and of course the spotless results after is comforting.
On New Year’s Eve, we go as a family to the church for CROSSOVER. That way, we thank God for the previous year and pray for the new year ahead. It’s usually filled with praise and dancing! Once it’s 12:00am, the new year, fireworks and more dancing commence. As a family, we pop a bottle of wine and share while watching the fireworks.
We usually cook a variety of meals on the new year with a lot of meat and drinks as well! Guests are usually welcome and the merriment continues.
Do you have any special resolutions or goals for the upcoming year? |

My goal for this year is to equip myself with various skills. I would love to improve in my writing and thereby make better contents. Learning how to drive, swim and even improve my culinary skills would not be left out.
I also want to be intentional about building good relationships, “no man is an island” we know!
How do you celebrate the New Year's Eve? Any unique or memorable experiences to share? |

New Year’s Eve is usually with my family. We all come together and talk about all the things we’re grateful for, and the things we would like different. Also, we vote on meals for the day, and the ones with the highest votes win! I made shawarma for my family to end the year. We all had that with cold yoghurt. It had been a long year, we deserved it.

How do you feel about the concept of "New Year, New Me"? Is it something you embrace or find overrate? |

Honestly, I find it overrated. People usually observe this “new me” for a couple of days or weeks and that’s it. You see people sign up in gyms, cutting off bad habits, and coming up with a lot of resolutions but not actually working on these things. Some go as far as cutting off friends as well.
I try to set realistic goals and start drawing out plans before the new year to help me achieve my goals.
What do you wish for yourself and others in the coming year? |

I wish for a peaceful and prosperous year for us this year. I look forward to a successful year, one with wonderful memories, new doors of opportunities, healthy relationships, all round happiness, good health(this is usually underrated) and a more positive mindset.
I pray we start this year and finish stronger and I pray we don’t lose any of our loved ones, Amen.
