Culture and Tradition: The Pre-Akwa Ibom Day Celebration

It's in great honor to bring to you the Akwa Ibom Day Celebration. I'm happy to be here today and I hope we are all doing well.

Pre-Akwa Ibom Day Celebration

It's always a thing of joy to celebrate every 23rd of September as this is a remarkable day for the Akwa Ibom people across the globe. In history, it represents the day on which they were given a state.

This day I been celebrated by everyone irrespective of where you are! The entire Akwa Ibom today is always a public holiday.

Here in Ikom land, Cross River state, we had been holding our celebration yearly without any disturbance but this year, the Akwa Ibom executive council had some misunderstanding amongst themselves and because of this, some sub-groups had come to the conclusion that the celebration won't hold.

We were in our local meeting when our chief told us that they were coming with Ekpo to tell us about the celebration of Akwa Ibom Day in Ikom land.

As we were sited, behold the arrival of the Akwa Ibom general chief accompanied by 3masqueradese and they scared many on the road because it was on a Sunday.

The image above shows how a guy carrying a lady, ran and left his bike while it fell into the gutter for fear of a masquerade.

The chief came to where we were sitting and our chief offered him a bottle of wine as the customer and tradition demanded.

His coming was at peace and he told the meeting the history of the Akwa Ibom Day in the land of Ikom. He also shared with us how he had been the secretary to the Akwa Ibom Union for 21 years. At this point, he encouraged us that we should stand firm for the celebration of the Akwa Ibom Day.

We were all happy again concerning the celebration because we were already prepared for the celebration. As you can see, the night was already drawing near and we also had out what we had to display.

In conclusion, we are happy to celebrate 23rd September 2024 as our day. If you are around Ikom, you can come to 2Ends field, along Etomi Road, four corners of Ikom.
