My Neighborhood Watch #84 - Reporting Events Around us

It's always exciting to make post in a community like Steem4Nigeria. Before I start I would like to invite two fellow Steemians @zulbahri and @chiagoziee to participate in the contest.

The annual five days Behala Utsav just completed yesterday. One of the main attractions of the fair was honouring the Santosh Trophy winner Bengal Football team along with the coach Sanjoy Sen. They have been honoured by many clubs and associations including Mohanbagan Supper Giant who have given the team an honorarium of USD 6352.18. As it was well informed in the pamphlet, there were lots of crowds to see the Trophy and the team members. Most of the players are from local teams. People were busy taking selfie with players and the trophy.

Afterwards there was a performance by a newly formed Rock Bengali band with vocalists from different bands of the nineties including Pata of Cactus, Anindya of Sahar (city) and Bani Chakraborty. They also did not miss to take the photo with the Bengali team coach Sanjay Sen.

Yesterday, the Kolkata court gave its verdict in the RG Kar rape and murder case remember in the hospital. There was that young Doctor who was on duty, who was attacked while she was resting in one of the conference rooms and she was found murdered the next morning and then consequently details emerged that she had been raped as well.

Now the main accused is Sanjay Roy who has been given life in prison as a term and the additional district and Sessions Judge had actually when he'd given out the sentence basically said that this does not fall into the category of rarest of rare and that is why he has decided not to impose the death penalty in this particular case.

This raised an eybrow since the victim died while on duty in hospital the state government has to give compensation to the family 10 lakh Rupees for the death and 7 lakh rupes for the rape and that was odd and worrying but the real reaction has come to the fact that it is a life sentence and not a death sentence and the justification is this does not qualify as rarest of rare now the parents of the young doctor have responded to this thing that they are not satisfied with the sentencing that they will move to a higher court.
