My worst highschool experience was one that broke me in so many ways and here is why.

Give us a brief introduction of your school, the name, location and why it stands out in your location.

So, I schooled in all girls' boarding school from Jss1 until I got to SS3. It took a whole lot to stay for that long. The name of the school I attended is Federal Government Girls' College, Ikot Obio Itong. It is located in Mkpat Enin LGA of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria.

My school stood out and still stands out as one of the best unity schools in Akwa Iom and Nigeria at large. I am proud to say that our academic performances stood our from those of our counterparts in the state and we also stood out in sports competitions in the country. The school's environment is one that is serene and enhances teaching and learning situations. We had teachers who were assigned to look after us in the hostels(female teachers) and during school hours when we are learning or observing our preparatory class time.

Share with us your worst high school experience.

My worst high school experience is one I might not forget in a long time. So, I was always given pocket money of 1,500 in naira every time I went home for holidays and was returning back to school. We were supposed to have an inter-house sports competition in my school and I needed to save up 5,000 for it since I knew my parents were not buoyant during that period. I was chosen to be the flower girl for my house and I was in SS3 at this time.

I had a saving box I had made from home . I kept saving my pocket money in there while feeding solely on the foods we always had from the school's refectory. The feeling of seeing others have snacks during break was heart wrenching but I held on and kept the money in my safe.

After two terms, I was able to save up to the amount I needed and I continued saving. I was given a post in school as a preparatory class prefect and with that , I was taken to SS2 hostel to stay with our juniors instead of our mates we normally stayed with. With the turn out of things, I decided to keep my savings box with my friend who I trusted and was not a prefect and stayed with our mates in the hostel to avoid the money been stolen in my new hostel since I was new to the place.

I kept on adding money to the savings and after a month, my friend came to tell me, my savings box was broken into and everything I saved in it was nowhere to be found. I was broken because that was what I stayed hungry for and my dream of participating in the inter-house sports competition became so blurry since I couldn't make the stipulated payment. I was devastated and cried everyday. I didn't know what I felt or how I felt but then I had a feeling of mixed emotions.

I had to call my parents to help me out if they could because they were the only ones I could ask of help from. Luckily for me, they were able to raise the 5,000 after a week and sent it to me. I made the payment and participated in the inter-house sports competition but deep down, I was not happy. I was so sad and everyone around me knew I felt really bad.

Was there any lesson learnt, kindly share with us.

I learnt a some lessons from this occurrence.

  • I was instructed by my parents to always keep my pocket money with my local guardian but I decided to do the savings myself.
Lesson: disobedience is not worth the risk.
  • My other friend has her doubts and advised me not to keep the money in the hostel but I felt it was save there.
Lesson: I learnt that thinking critically about other people's opinions on crucial matters can help to correct some wrong.

Here is my worst experience in high school. In all of these, I still allowed it slide just to keep the friendship going.

Thank you @steem4nigeria for having me. I want to invite @imadear, @roselove and @darasimi to participate in this context.
