The Diary Game (30/04/2024) - My Twin Girls' Christening

Introduction

Every human carries a nomenclature that distinguishes them from others. The tradition has been in existence for a long time. It's a day we must give my twin girls their names according to our tradition.

The Diary

My tribe's tradition chooses the eighth day postpartum for a baby's christening. During the previous weekend, we had chosen 3 pm on the 30th of April for the christening which was duly communicated with my church.

My girls and their mother have remained at the UNIOSUN (formerly LAUTECH) teaching hospital since their birth. Every day, we hoped we would be discharged but the doctors have remained adamant about keeping my wife under their watch to make sure she's a hundred per cent fit before discharging her.

The whole period of waiting became extremely tiring. We were so certain of being discharged on Monday (a day before the christening) but it was identified that my wife had a slight temperature rise which was translated to fever. I nearly filled the **DAMA (Discharged against medical advice) ** form on Monday evening but we were calmed with a certain discharge the next morning.

I stepped out as early as 6 am today to pick my mother-in-law up at the hospital because we needed to get some stuff for the christening. We were still outside the hospital before my wife messaged me that she'd been discharged.

I got back to the hospital around 11 am and started processing the clearance that will certify we have settled all bills and validate the discharge. We eventually pulled through and got home around 12:30 pm, wifey has been out of the house for two weeks, and it all feels good to be back.

My little angels took some shots before the christening began and even though we were in haste most of the shots came out lit.

The church leader and the deacons arrived and started the christening at 3 pm. The program started with praise and worship followed by prayers and then a sermon for the parents on how to raise their kids in the way that pleases God. It's time to give the babies their names, my tribe permits giving newborns as many names as possible (I have seen babies with more than 30 names before, lol)

I tried to contain the names to just 5 but it was so hard because the babies's grandparents, aunts, uncles and so on have brought their preferred names. We ended up with 9 names for each twin. In Yoruba land, the first twin to come out has a name from birth which is Taiwo, meaning the first to grace the earth between the twins and the second is Kehinde, meaning the second to arrive.

As we have put it into writing, our first twin bears Olivia and Tifeoluwanimi (meaning- I'm the wish of God) . And the second twin bears Chloe and Tiaraoluwanimi (meaning- I belong to the body of God). It was an amazing event graced with families and well-wishers across the neighbourhood.

The joy felt on this day is far greater than the one felt when my kids first arrived. Our twin girls were christened with the names of our choice. The whole program didn't take more than 2 hours. My twin girls were so stressed at the end of the day and I must say we had a vigil later that night, lol.

It's a pleasure walking through my diary game article today and I hope you had a great read.

Congratulations on successful discharge from the hospital and naming ceremony. Welcome dear Olivia and Chloe. I am aware of the twins automatic names in Yoruba, Taiwo and Kahinde. Reading your diary has reminded me of my days in Lagos during naming ceremonies. I know that everything went well. I wish you success as you carry on your responsibilities as a father of these little Princesses

I know you know more about naming ceremonies in this part of the world than the little you have shared here 😂. Thanks for reading through and commenting here, ma'am.
