Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 5 - Application for Steem4Nigeria Community
Introduction
At Steem4Nigeria, we were delighted to see the update by the Steemit team about the opening of application for the season 5 of the engagement challenge on our dear Steemit, we are ever Steeming and once again we'd like to make an application into the challenge for the upcoming season. In this piece of article, you'd get to know more about our dear community. We implore you to walk with us on this.
Steem4Nigeria's Purpose
Steemit is ever-growing and changing lives giving the privilege to learn, earn and increase their stake on-chain to become more independent with various initiatives set up by the team. New users also troop into Steemit to contribute to the growth of the platform, at the time our community was created, there were only individual communities created by Nigerians, the community was birthed by the idea of having a community that portrays the image of an official home for Nigerians on Steemit.
We created Steem4Nigeria to serve as the official home for Nigerians, that connects and supports people from this part of the world. As such, we can have these ones gather together under one roof and not continue being dispersed, they now have a place of their own. The community serves as the official community for Steemians from Nigeria to connect with each other, also, we accommodate our foreign friends too.
The History of our Community
The community was created on the 12th day of February 2022. We made the first community introduction post on 15th of February 2022. From the inception of the creation, the activities of the community have been controlled by the founding members, also acting as the moderators.

When the community was about two months old, we deem it fit to launch recruitment for moderators that would be in charge of commenting and vetting, and in essence, performing curation on articles made in the community and on the 11th of April 2022, an announcement of two new moderators in the community was made. At the moment, we have 5 moderators already, the Admins also are always available to join them for the moderator role in the community.

The community Admins are also the founding members who conceived the idea and brought it into reality. A table below would be used to show each active member's role and their club status.

We intended to bring in moderators from another part of the world into our team, unfortunately, no application was received from any yet. In the nearest future, we would be looking forward to recruiting more moderators (including our friends of different nationalities). Interaction with articles made in the community is being done by moderators and admins also assist in the process, as such we have full capacity to handle moderation in the community.
Community's Curation Account
The creation of our community was accompanied by the creation of an official account, @steem4nigeria. @steem4nigeria has since its inception been our main curation account with delegations from the founding members. The account has a total of 16,355 effective SP at the time of writing this article. @steem4nigeria is currently #club75 participant, other stats about the account can be seen below.

The account has been used to support articles published in the community, in this way, we show our users that we appreciate their works and thereby encourage them to do more.
The founding members have been able to delegate a total of 4,700 SP to the community's official account so far.

The delegators including the founding members are 20 in total at the moment of writing this article. We look forward to strengthening our curation account sooner through various plans we are presently working on while we would continue encouraging our members to delegate to the curation account.
Account Keys
The posting key to our curation account is shared with all the Admins/MODs for vetting and curation. In addition, @fredquantum and @ngoenyi have the entire curation account keys, as such, no transaction involving the use of keys like active key is initiated without a consensus reached between the two.
Policy of Checking Articles
In the Steem4Nigeria community, we employ a few parameters for checking articles published in the community, this enables visitors/readers/curators to have an overview of an article. Some of the parameters used are as follows;
- Verified User: We check if a user is verified as we go through their achievement posts before verification. This feature is indicated when vetting the articles.
- Steem Exclusivity: We ensure that published articles in the community have not been shared anywhere before. As such ensuring their articles are #steemexclusive.
- Plagiarism-Free: Articles published in the community are properly checked for plagiarism and the result is indicated during the check.
- Club Status: We ensure that articles made in the community are checked to see the status of the publisher and the result is indicated.
- Bot Free: We ensure that our users are not the ones involved in buying votes, this is properly checked and only the ones marked clean are being considered for our support.
- #burnsteem25: We adequately acknowledge users that have been supporting the #burnsteem25 initiative as such it's indicated in our checking parameters under beneficiary.
How the Community helps to improve Users' Quality
- We have created guides on various valid practices on Steemit, through some of our admins. The guides are suitable for both old and new users to ensure they do things the right way and do not treat Steemit like every other social media platform.
- Newbies tend to break certain rules especially if their recruiters have not been able to properly guide them, we have created a group for the newbies where they are properly guided from time to time to ensure they produce quality content on the platform.
Why We should be chosen
There are a few things that make us more suitable for selection in this fifth season of the engagement challenge organized by the Steemit team. Let's see some of them below.
- We have appreciable number of users actively posting in our community.
- The entire team members have been dedicated to the growth of the community, as such quality content is shared in the community which would definitely trigger engagements in the upcoming contest.
- Our MODs and Admins have been committed to adequately checking articles published in the community.
- We have been part of the engagement challenge before while we delivered effectively with all diligence. If given the chance again, we would perform even better.
- If given the chance, our community might end up as one of the most successful and strongest communities on Steem. As such, this contest would draw more members and make us more established like we have enjoyed in one of the previous seasons when we got selected.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we have been able to present a few things about us in this piece of article, the state of things in our community including our commitment to continually support the community members and contribute positively to Steemit development at large and other things discussed therein. One question - why do you want to recruit Mods from other countries?
As a Country Community it would be best to have all your Mods from Nigeria.
Thanks for the reasonable/valuable question, SC01. We believe being a country community doesn't make us entirely limited to the country, we are one in the Steem ecosystem. As such, a development of that nature would improve our interpersonal relationship with other users in other parts of the world since we are welcoming everyone to participate in our community.
That said, we are not prioritizing the decision to recruit MODs from other parts of the world at all costs, it's just a plan we hope it'd bring some dynamics to the operation of the community. We appreciate your suggestion about why we should keep it local to the nationals of Nigeria alone and we'd strictly continue abiding by that. Thank you once again.
