Did You Know?
Hi friends, it's your friend again. I welcome you all to my blog. I know you're excited about reading a fresh edition of "Did You Know?" Your regular history content here on Steem4Nigeria.
Last week, we looked at voting during elections before 1960 in Nigeria. That is talking about the adult male suffrage. Today, I have a very interesting edition for you.
Did you know that Nigeria's independence was first proposed in the parliament by Chief Anthony Enahoro in March 1953? Before independence in 1960, there had been motions moved that Nigeria be granted political independence and the very first one was moved by one of the Nigerian nationalists, Chief Anthony Enahoro. Chief Enahoro was a native of Uromi in present-day Edo state, Nigeria.
We enjoy freedom from colonial rule today because someone took a bold step to mention that in the legislature.
Historical Facts
- Before the British considered granting independence to Nigeria, it was a Nigerian who had proposed that before it was realised in 1960.
