THE DAY I'LL DIE

I am the persona
Behind the mood and tone
The melody of the rhymes and rhythm
Spilling through writers' inks
Think not of my demise
For the day I'll die is miles and miles away.

The day I'll die is,
When cruelty shall fade and humanity shall surge;
When our collective labours shall beget our collective favour
And the gains of our pains shall reach all.

The day I'll die is,
When our rulers shall become leaders
And the followers conscious of their rights;
When justice shall regain her sight
To see the plight of the oppressed
And the captive set free.

The day I'll die is,
When the cell shall be an abode only for the guilty
Not for the innocent alike.
When colour and race, class and status;
And, religion and tribe shall no longer count
The day I'll die is,
When love shall rule over hate
And peace shall overthrow war.

The day I'll die is,
When every religion shall preach universal humanity
And politics shall be the true will of the people
The day I'll die remains,
When African culture shall no more be tagged barbaric
And her tongue forsaken

The day I'll die is,
When inequality of man shall meet equality
Justice shall be for all
And the world, a better place.
Till then, let these songs of freedom run through my ink
Till the last man gets the message
