HOW I MADE UP MY MIND TO ATTEND👇 THE INAUGURAL LECTURE

Standing behind a professor to tap the blessings

On our way back from school I and my friend came by a non-vocal communicator outside the school gate that was silently beckoning passers-by to receive its message. We were carried away when we saw the images of the Vice-chancellor of the University of Uyo and another reputable scholar on it.

We were so curious to get every detail on it so we positioned ourselves to have a proper focal point eye view on the image and other captions. It had a piece of information on a billboard about the 98th Inaugural Lecture of the Faculty of Education, Department of Agriculture on the topic "Multidimensional Application of Agricultural Education in Psycho-Productive Skills Development of Clienteles for Sustainable Livelihood" that was to be held on Thursday, 30th, November 2023.

The lecture was to be taken by a university don, Professor of Agricultural Education, Department of Agricultural Education, Faculty of Vocational Education, Library and Information Science, University of Uyo who was recently initiated into the cabal of professors. A man who had made a lot of impact in the field of education and towards the growth of the state and nation by serving in various capacities as an opportunity presented itself to him. This event was to be held in a 1000-capacity edifice on the University of Uyo main campus.

A FLASHBACK

We kept counting down but we came to that day without the picture of such events in our mind, we wanted to attend the presentation but had lost count of the day I guess it's as a result of too many academic engagements. I got to know that it was the day for the inaugural lecture when two of our coursemates were discussing their interest in attending an event in school, so I just summed up courage to ask one of them about the event type and luckily for us it was the same event we had been waiting to attend. We just ended a 2 hours lecture by 4 pm and was somehow exhausted but gained strength when I discovered that was the day for the event

SPOKEN WORDS ABSOLVED

The vice-chancellor of the University of uyo was there, and the governor of Akwa Ibom State was ably represented by the Commissioner of Education. I learnt a lot that day from his presentation; to be courageous, determined, and disciplined. It is possible to get to the peak of any discipline we just need to be resolute and hardworking. I was inspired to continue aiming high and never to relent in knowledge acquisition.

THE STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE

I got some ghost pimples when the school anthem was sung, a particular line struck me which was the letting go of the old unprofitable traditions to other generations and I made up my mind that I would strive hard in my educational pursuit to become a professor, make a presentation and enjoy the same or more aculat. I believe the road to where they are wasn't rosy at all times. There were times they had to sacrifice their comforts, and pleasures all to the achieving of a particular goal.

OUR PRESENCE HIGHLY APPRECIATED

It is always pleasant to have your loved ones and friends around on the day you are been celebrated. The wife, siblings and other relatives of the presenter were in their numbers. I learned from this that no matter our level of advancement we should never ignore our people because they will be needed to stand by us someday.

Lots of students were in attendance though some I guess went for what is commonly referred to as item 6, well, some students maximize every opportunity in school to fill their stomachs. However, many went for knowledge and to gather momentum from the achievements of these scholars.
