Greetings to my fellow country people and steemians in this community.

On Thursday, I and my course mates visited an important facility in our school's main campus which happens to be THE UNIVERSITY OF UYO LIBRARY.

It is always said that if you want to conceal information from "THE BLACKS" you put such information in a book. Could this be a mere fallacy?

The library is just a stone's throw from the Faculty of Science. It is located in a serene environment with trees and shrubs at strategic positions to make it conducive for visitors.

It has different sections which include the Circulation section that handles the lending of library materials to students. The periodical section provides current information in the library. The technical section handles classification and cataloguing. The Acquisition, Reference, Reprographic and Computer sections, etc.

There are well-arranged cabinets and lockers before getting into the library where students and other library users can keep their belongings that they wouldn't need inside the library.

On getting into the library, I discovered that the library staff at the checking desk that should have examined our library cards wasn't on seat so we walked in without being asked to identify ourselves by presenting our library cards which was the normal library policy.

The waiting room was without a soul.
On getting to the science section of the library about 95% present of the reading desks were empty. I wasn't surprised because from the school timetable, we still have about 2 months to exams and I have noticed that many students don't read unless there's a test or an exam to write and this has eaten deep into the consciousness of many and tremendously affected our educational system.

The library was abused that day by its users, many went there to charge their gadgets and chats. The library staff were not there to caution against these nonchalant attitudes. They also had a face on the coin. Some of the books that should have been returned to the shelve weren't returned, which I believed could be a result of the poor turnout of library users.

The height of the matter that day was how one of us turned the library into his bedroom, a place I could liken to a dining room where information on prints and other forms are been digested and assimilated into the mind.

Well, there were still some students that went there to study even though some of the light bulbs were bad with the presence of few standing fans they never allowed that to inconvenience them. They had to make use of the light rays that penetrated through the window, lighting the room.

I could classify them as wise serious students who don't wait until when a test is announced or the exam timetable is out. They don't just want to pass exams but understand the concept of what they are studying.
It won't be a surprise if such students who are committed to their studies bag first class in their respective disciplines.

Do you know that the library has fire extinguishers positioned at different positions in the library? The bookshelf was filled with books and the government were still sending in more but there were few persons to read these books. Quite sad. When I consider the amount of money that is been invested in the purchasing of these books I weep because many are not interested in studying these books. Many of these books are been accessed by dust and air. What a pity.

At this juncture I would love to invite my friends @akwaowo, @nsijoro, @basil20 , @lucky4karmen, @bossj23 to join in this contest
