Let's show how creative you are:- Drawing - Porcupine

Merry Christmas to all the beautiful members of this group, it's one of you, @destinedhanik and I'm glad to be participating in this contest by @benton3. Today, I'll be drawing a porcupine and I'll be sharing some unique things about this wonderful creature.

My drawing materials was made up of the following things:

• A plain sheet

• HB pencil

• Coloured Pens

• An Eraser

• A sharpener

• Step 1: I started my drawing with the mouth of a porcupine. This I got by making a not too round shape and dividing it into two.

• Step 2: I then drew the body of my porcupine and I added an eye to my porcupine. I got the body by making a curve and they eye I got it by making a small circle and I added a dot inside.

• Step 3: My next step was adding the legs of my porcupine. I added 4 legs to it.

• Step 4: I added the tree on which my porcupine was standing on and I also added a tail to my porcupine.

• My final process in drawing my Porcupine was adding quilts to the body of my porcupine with the right colour which is black and shedding parts which needed to be shaded and my drawing was complete.

Porcupines otherwise known as quill-pigs are rodents that have spikes that is as sharp as needle and these spikes are called quills. These spikes covers some part of the body of the porcupines (back, sides and tail). Porcupines are mammals (warm blooded vertebrate animals with hair or fur) and they are herbivores. Porcupines are commonly black and white, and they have short stocky legs with long tails. Baby Porcupines are called porcupettes. I have never seen a porcupine in real life except on books and television. Porcupines are not edible in my locality. Porcupines are mostly found in the deserts, forests and on hillsides. They are always climbing trees. They can be found in countries such as America, Africa, Southern Europe, Mexico, Italy, Asia, Canada. Porcupines are the longest living rodent. Their average lifespan is 5 to 7 years, but if raised by man, maybe in a zoo, they can live up to 18 years. A porcupine mostly a nocturnal animal.

Porcupines are herbivorous animals. They eat leaves, herbs, green plants, roots, fruits, farm crops, etc.

Porcupines are very slow which makes then open to attack, especially from faster animals. When a porcupine senses danger or is agitated or angry, it warn the person by clattering it's teeth, bringing out it's odour or making it's quills (hair) stand erect before it attacks. A porcupine's tail, if swung in the direction of the predator and it's make contact with the predator, it can case injury or even death to the predator. • The porcupine is a loner, it lives and moves in solitude.

• It has an extraordinary memory even though it is slow in terms of movement. It can learn complex mazes and still remember it over 3 months later.

• Their quills fall off only when they attack predators and they grow new quills to replace the ones they lose.

• Just one Porcupine can have up to 30,000 quills.

• Porcupines rely on their nose in terms of selection of plants.

• They are peaceful animals and are also loyal,they try to avoid conflict.

• Porcupines have antibiotics in it's quills that helps them heal when they have injuries.

• They are very good swimmers.

• A porcupine serves as meat to man in some countries like Southeast Asia.

• The parts of a porcupine is very useful example the quills are used for decoration on clothes and other accessories used or worn by humans and even serves as musical instruments.

• Porcupines contribute their quota in terms of the food web by transporting food and nutrients as they move from tree to tree and as they drop branches and other food particles on the forest floor.

• They help in forest replenishment because she they damage trees, these trees serves as habitats to other creatures.
