Diseases Associated with Birth

It is actually a good thing to be an expectant mum, it is indeed very lovely and interesting to carry a life inside of you. Most women usually feel very happy and proud to have given birth as it is a thing of Joy. As soon as a woman is expectant of a child, preparations starts immediately, they register for antenatal care, as well as start making provisions for the arrival of the baby, but some forget to leave/ avoid some of their previous habits which are really not good, and could be harmful to their child. I will be discussing all that is involved when it comes to diseases associated with birth, as well as ways we can prevent them. Read along with me. 😁

Birth Defect

This could also be referred to as birth defect. Once an egg is fertilized by a sperm cell, and conception takes place, it simply means a baby has started growing in the uterus. Diseases Associated with birth, are those difficulty or issues that affects the developing embryo while in the uterus. The issues could be mild or severe,as well as very fatal, leading to the death of the unborn child. Some of these issues are genetically induced and could start as early the first trimester while others could be as a result of the lifestyle of the mum. The problems could affect the physical looks of the child, or it’s organs or quite harmless.

To discuss further about these diseases, we will classify them based on its causes.

• Genetically induced defect
• Non- Genetically induced defect

Genetically Induced defect

When a child is given birth, inheritance occurs. Inheritance are those traits that are inherited by offspring from parents. Genetically induced defect are those diseases or conditions that parents transmit to their children. In the world today, every human have a disease, it might not be a problem because it is recessive. When a parent who is a carrier of a particular disease mates with a person who is also a carrier, there is every possibility that one of their offspring would have such a disease.

Genetically induced defect are also of 2 kinds. It could be structural or functional.

Functional: this type of genetically induced illness affects the intelligence as well as various organs of the body. It makes various organs of the body not to function in the correct way. Some of them includes:

• Down syndrome
During the process of fertilization, parents usually transmits genes to their children, and these genes are passed through chromosomes.A developing child receives 23pairs of chromosomes from the mother, as well as 23pairs of chromosomes from the father, making it a total of 46 chromosomes. During the process of receiving the chromosomes by the cell of the developing child, sometimes there is an extra copy of the chromosome especially the 21st chromosome which tends to result in delay in their physical as well as mental development, hence leading to the condition known as Down syndrome.

• Sickle cell disease
Scientifically, the red blood cell is shaped like a disc, this helps it to be flexible as well as easily transport blood as well as oxygen to different vessels of the blood. In the case of sickle cell, the red blood cell is shaped Like a sickle, and as such, the free circulation of blood as well as oxygen is restricted.

• Cystic Fibrosis

This disease is one that is very dangerous and can lead to instant death. The body usually secrets mucus that are smooth and thin, that helps to keep the body dry, when these mucus becomes excessive and begins to build up, becomes sticky and thick around the intestines, lungs, liver, pancreas, then a cystic fibrosis is said to have occurred. We all know how important these organs are, when it comes to our well being.

Structural

The word structural has to do with body parts. It is a disease that affects a part of the body, either by not forming properly, or totally missing from the developing child.

Some of these diseases include:

• Cleft palate

cleft palate

The mouth of a normal human is made up of two palates, the soft and the hard palates. Soft palate is one that comprises of soft tissues, and located behind the mouth, while the hard palate is made up of bony structures just at the front of the roof of the mouth. A cleft palate is a condition that occurs when the hard palate and soft palate are not able to close properly.

• club foot

clubfoot

When a child is born or developing, the ultrasound could tell how the foetus looks like. The feet of A normal child is expected to point forward, but clubfoot occurs when the feet of a child points inwards instead of pointing forward. This condition usually affects only one foot, but in rare conditions both feet is affected.

• Heart defects
It occurs when there is a damage in either the wall, valves of the heart. It could be as a result of a hole in the heart resulting in blood leakage or the vessels carrying blood to different parts of the heart are not functioning properly.

Non- Genetically induced defect

These diseases are caused by the result of the lifestyle of the mother, which could be excessive intake of alcohol or smoking. Apart from lifestyle, exposure to different kind of chemicals by the mother, such as radioactive chemicals could cause a problem to the developing child. Misuse of various drugs, could also result in abnormalities of a developing child. Lack of adequate parental care as well as long time untreated Bacteria infections from the mother, could lead to a defect in the developing child.

How to Prevent Birth defect

It is very true that some of the diseases/defects are beyond our control, but no matter what, we will try as much as possible to do the little we can for our unborn child and as such, we are expected to do the following:

• Plan Ahead

It would be very unwise of us to go into child bearing without having a plan about if we are ready for child bearing and rearing or not. Before anyone would go into building a mansion, you need to ensure you have the necessary resources to complete the mansion, Same is applicable with child bearing. Couple should not give in to the pressure from friends, family members or close relatives when it comes to child bearing, as no human is willing to train the children of others. Ensure you have the necessary resources before thinking of raising a child.

• Avoid Harmful substance
Once you have made up your mind to rear a child, you need to avoid the intake of hard drugs, as well as substances you know could be dangerous to the health and well-being of your child. Avoid intake of alcohol as well as constant exposure to chemicals as well as misuse of medications with high amount of lithium.

• Healthy lifestyle
Since the general well-being of your child is your utmost concern, it should be wise for you to choose a healthy life style. Exercise regularly, eat good diet as well as constantly check for diabetes as it is a common illness.

• Visit a Healthcare provider
A pregnant woman is expected to visit a doctor or any health care provider constantly. Specific drugs are to be administered, which are known as the routine drugs. Also try as much as possible to open up, and talk about your family history. State any health problem associated with your family, as this will help the doctor to give the best medication as well as advice.

The need for Knowledge Above

In the world today, there is high rate of disease and most of these diseases are peculiar to children. You cannot go to a particular location or vicinity without noticing a child which a defect. It could be sickle cell, Down syndrome popularly tagged ‘imbecile’.
People need to understand that child bearing and raising is not just something you wake up and decide. You have to think thoroughly as these diseases could cause a dent in your life as well as that of your child. It could lead to loss of all resources while trying to find solutions to the problems, as well as an everlasting pain-Death.

Technology and My field

Technology has helped so much when you talk about birth defect as well as health in general.

Electronic fetal monitoring, ultrasonography, blood pressure screening, maternal/fetal pulse oximetry, and infusion pumps are among the most frequent technical innovations currently accessible for assessment and maternal/fetal care during birth.

I hope you enjoyed my post. Drop a question if any.

Lots of love 💗

@beautiefair,

I support this sayings of yours:

Couple should not give in to the pressure from friends, family members or close relatives when it comes to child bearing, as no human is willing to train the children of others. Ensure you have the necessary resources before thinking of raising a child.

Most couple allows themselves to fall victim because of pressure. But they fails to remember that if in a hurry, they gives birth to a defect child, the child must bear their name and not that of others. I wish such people can read this article. Thanks once again. To know how much i value this post, i must resteem it.

Exactly my dear. Thanks for visiting my blog
