My Neighborhood Watch #67 - Reporting Events Around us
This very week, I delightfully want to bring to you all! The attention of a troubling situation really happening right here in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. So please if you thought things really couldn’t get worse, then you've to think again. The price of fuel ⛽ has really skyrocketed to an alarming! Two Thousand Naira and above(2k+) = 6 STEEMs. This sincerely is not just a number; it’s definitely a very heavy burden on the shoulders of almost everyday citizens trying to make their ends meet.
Fuel Shortage and Night Sales |

The Gas stations have so become a rare sights, with so many not opening at all. Those that do at least, choose to sell fuel primarily at late evening and night, taking the advantage of the situation to maximize their own profits without considering the masses. It’s indeed a troubling scene as people do scramble to find fuel for their own daily needs/tasks, only to be met with the high prices and empty pumps.
The Cause Behind the Crisis |

According to Reporters concern to the circulated sudden spike in prices. Some sources bring up a suggestion that a confrontation between the soldiers and a tank driver led to the tank drivers going on strike after maltreatment of their colleague by Force men. This situation has left us, the citizens, really grappling with the unbearable consequences of this situation 😭.

And as if the fuel crisis just wasn't enough, the power supply situation too, managed by the NEPA, has help well to worsened the problem. Residents do barely see electricity during the day, and so when it does come, it’s mostly at the night hours alone. This has made it more and even more challenging for the shop owners who do rely on electricity to keep their businesses running, by hunting for the high price fuel and burning to run their businesses which has cost almost all the profits to be make.
Many Citizens crowding the least available power station in the area just to power up their devices.

A Plea for Compassion |

I really feel an immense sympathy for the shop owners who must buy the expensive fuel while still paying the NEPA bills for the power they hardly receive for daily to weekly activities. They are caught in an unpredictable vicious cycle of a high costs without any relief in sight at all.
- And all I can say is that we all need help in this state and the country as a whole, and it really feels like we are running out of the options. This very situation is far beyond our control, and so I urge anyone who can please assist to step in. Our dear community deserves better!

It is treble what we are experiencing in this country, let me ask do you think other countries are experiencing this same thing? Look at fuel and gas that should be affordable as at today it's no longer a concern to appropriate quarters, making the common man to suffer. We are in serious trouble in Nigeria and we need help.
