My Neighborhood Watch #81 - Reporting Events Around us
electrocution scene
Tears roll as man gets electrocuted on 1st January, 2025.
It is another week of neighbourhood reportage in our dear community. This is the first edition for the year 2025 and in line, it is also my first participatory post for the year 2025. Just as I would be participating in this contest for the first time this year, I would also be going through the posts from other steemians in the community, to know what has happened around us.
The neighbourhood watch informs us about the good and bad development that happens in our environment. Sharing these information with the community keeps us abreast of unending and unfolding events so that we know what is happening around us.
Today, I am bringing to this community the sad event that occured on the 1st of january this year.
Electrocution scene
It was a sorrowful day in the university of lagos state estate, located at magodo area of the state, as an electrician gets electrocuted on a high-tension electricity wire on the 1st day of january 2025.
The electrician who was identified as Mr.Sheni, was hired by a resident of the estate to fix some wires and make connection to the building. On the process of making the connections from the pole to the building, Mr.Sheni became electrocuted by the higb-tension wire and died on the spot.
Report gathered so far indicates that the electrician was not a staff of any electricity distribution company. The electricity distribution company was not consulted and so the repaires and wiring was done without their knowledge.
After some minuites the electrocution occured, the lagos state ambulance service arrived the scene.

Electricity suply is one of the infrastructures that measures the level of development of a society. Infact, I would say that it is a ‘bedrock infrastructure’ that serves as a catalyst for economic growth. Electricity shapes the mordern day life as could be seen on its wide range of uses. The lagos state fire service and anti-crime patrol of the Isheri division, came to the scene. Subsequently, he was brought down from the pole and deposited in the mortuary. Contacts were made to reach out to his family.
USES OF ELECTRICITY:
When you think of living in the abscence of electricity, you would agree with me that life would be extremely difficult to live. Electricity is useful both for domestic and industrial application. It is useful or the following purposes:
Powering of appliances
Electricity is used to power devices such as phones, computers, home appliances like television and radio; laboratory equipments and other medical equipments.
Heating of systems:
Mordern day life has become more easy to live as there are now energy that could be used to heat up systems. Some electrical heating systems are:
Heating pumps
Convection heaters
Radiant heaters
Lighting
Lighting powered by electricity has contributed in reducing carbon emissions. The use of LED technology has increased the demand for energy.
Transportation services
Some nations are now adopting electric vehicles which are also now contributing to reduced carbon emissions. This is very significant especialy to the road transport system as it is emiliorating some of the challenges on road transportation.
It is unlawful and dangerous for one to embark on electricity repaires and wiring without approval from the electricity distribution companies. Training and retraining is needed and approval gotten from electricity distribution companies before conducting or carrying out any kind of repairs.
On the other hand, electricity consumers should report or inform the electricity distribution companies about any problem they have from their wirings or distribution lines. They should contact only the qualified staff to fix their electricity problems.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
If this is one of those Nepa people, I won't feel bad because they deserve it as heartless people 😂😂. But anyways, I feel bad for him. Safety is always preached and he took it for granted. I hope his family will cope with their loss.
