RE: Und weiter geht's - Sonntag: Wernigerode / And on we go - Sunday: Wernigerode

What an interesting read! Excursions like this, playing host, and all. It must have been quite an experience.

The restoration of the castle and your disappointment: I felt that too. I always wonder how history is preserved during renovations. There must be an entire field dedicated to this meticulous and tedious process, balancing preservation with the need for structural integrity. It’s a delicate art, trying to breathe new life into something without erasing its past. I genuinely felt a sigh of relief when you mentioned that an association would be restoring it to its last version… but at some point, we won’t be able to peek into history anymore. What will be left then—records, photographs, or just reimagined versions of the past?

By the way, could you share some pictures of that tiny house?

It was built into a fire lane when the housing shortage was great - both side walls are exterior walls of the neighbouring houses. All rooms, doors etc. are 30-40cm lower than in ‘normal’ houses...
