Steemit Engagement Challenge Season8 Week1: My learning during the pandemic

in STEEMIT HEALTHlast year

Greetings my lovely friends!

At first, It was just like a nightmare, little did I know that nightmare became a reality and it changed our lives permanently. When Tsunami hits Sri Lanka, we had no clue about it whatsoever. I remember when the sea went back some people ran into the beach to claim God given land. This situation reminds me of the potential harm that an invisible virus, which we have no knowledge of, could inflict on our society. It could have been the worst crisis we ever faced! But luckily FEAR of dead and some efficient management from the government kept numerous Sri Lankans safe.

Now I will share what I’ve learned from the worst 02 years of my life!

What do you consider to be the main lesson you learned from the pandemic?

The main lesson that I learned from the pandemic is the UNCERTAINTY of this life. Not only pandemics, every catastrophic disaster reminds us at least once a month about the same from different parts of the world, yet we are too busy to listen to it. However, this being a pandemic we had to listen to nature halting all other things in life. Many individuals began to see life from different perspectives due to the pandemic.

We had to wear mask where ever we go

Now we know that even an unseen tiny little virus can eradicate humans within a few months. So I believe we have to prioritize what we are doing with our life.

The second crucial lesson I learned is ADAPTABILITY. The pandemic made us make significant changes in our lives, such as focusing on hygiene, wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining social distance even with our loved ones, and eating healthy foods to keep a good immune system! The fact that we have adapted to these changes is remarkable because we all want to survive.

Did you have any loss of family or friends because of the pandemic? Can you tell us about it?

Unfortunately, I also had to face the loss of some of my clients due to the pandemic. It was heartbreaking to see the people I cared about and gave service to make them beautiful suffered due to this deadly virus. However, their loss taught me the importance of valuing our health more than anything else. Although it was a painful experience, I feel a little fortunate that I did not lose any of my loved ones 🙏

What was the most difficult moment during the pandemic?

The most difficult moment during the pandemic was when my husband and I fell in fever!

We were living in a two story house, and the upper floor is occupied by only us. We both did not want to go to the quarantine centers and get stuck there for months. We were extremely frightened at that time, thinking what to do!

There our families supported us saying that since we already living in a separate house just let them know if things get too serious with our health condition. Luckily, I recovered from the fever within 02 days and my husband recovered after a week.

After all that process, do you value your health more?

Ohh.. that's a biiigggg YES. It is the most important thing and many of us had a wake up call after the pandemic. It's like nature gave us a chance to correct ourselves. But we gradually going back to who we were before the pandemic.

Did the pandemic impact your finances positively or negatively? How did you cope?

Just like it did on many other businesses, I also had a negative impact on my finances. Many women were too afraid to come to the salon because we use the same equipment and tools for all the customers. The first few months were the worst. I thought I would have to shut down the business because we had literally zero income.

However, I’ve cut down on expenses and relied on savings to keep the business going. As time passed, we ensured safety measures such as sanitizing each customer, all tools, and wearing masks while providing services. Now things are moving back to normal which is a good thing for business.

I still take necessary precautions while working

That's the end of my learning about the pandemic. I wish we will never have to face such a thing again. It is distressing even to recall all these memories. I wish everyone a healthy life and remind you to appreciate the value of good health at all costs.

I would like to invite my friends @dove11 , @mini80 and @saimaqam to join the contest.

Saludos.

But this occasion scientific knowledge had done a great deal to save us. On the other hand it might be a scientific research that brought this virus to the world! However, I'm glad that we manage to somewhat control it.

Gracias por participar en este reto. La pandemia dejó tristeza en muchos corazones del mundo entero. Tomar las precauciones hoy día nos evita una nueva propagación. La mascarilla es nuestra principal prevención 🤗

There were new variants but I think with the better hygiene practices we are safe for now.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience and insights on the pandemic. It's inspiring to hear how you have adapted to the changes brought by the pandemic, especially in prioritizing health and safety. It's heartwarming to know that you had the support of your family during the difficult time when you and your husband fell ill.

It's unfortunate to hear about the negative impact of the pandemic on your business and the loss of your clients. However, it's inspiring to see how you've coped with the situation by cutting down on expenses and implementing safety measures. Your resilience and determination are commendable, and I'm glad to hear that things are gradually moving back to normal for your business.

Your story serves as a reminder of the importance of valuing our health and adapting to change, no matter how difficult it may be. Let's continue to take necessary precautions and prioritize our health as we navigate through this pandemic together

Yes dear @saimaqam, we must not simply ignore the fact the virus is still among us without a definite treatment. It is always better to practice the hygiene practices to prevent it.

Thanks for inviting me on this contest, I was a little too busy on a personal front so I got time to respond today and I can see what you have gone through during this dreaded disease and still doing.

I have suffered a lot including mental stress beside my job although I faced no financial stress. I hope we should learn to live with pandemic thing as it will come back in different forms. My best wishes.

Yes, it may return sooner or later. My mental stress was the financial stress 😅 otherwise it was like a holiday when you switch off all the news.
