Jorge Luiz Frello Filho. Born in Brazil, nationality : Italian

The Italian defensive midfielder had his humble beginnings. Starting his career at the age of 18 and debuting of Hellas Verona in Italy. Back in 2010. He was then loanee out to Sambonifacese that same year on a season long loan. One year later he returned and made his spot in Hellas Verona permanent. After playing their for 3 years he then departed of SSC Napoli in 2014 for a fee of €9.50 million. He was Maurizio Sarri's choice. Maurizio Sarri himself is a very intuitive kind of manager. He has been a banker for most of life but his passion for the game led him to coaching. He had spent more than 20 years coaching lower league clubs and helping them achieve promotion. And he was successful. Then he was appointed by SSC Napoli.

Jorginho was the kind of defensive midfielder who Sarri required to give his thought of "Sarriball" or "Sarrismo" (as of the Italian dictionary) a shape of reality. Jorginho was a regista. A regista is the kind of a defensive midfielder who's very good on the ball, has an excellent passing range, and can dictate the tempo of the game from the defensive third. Jorginho's fundamental role in "Sarriball" gave both him and Sarri huge success. By 2017-2018 Napoli was a team to fear. Thanks to the system of quick short passing in very tight spaces implemented by Maurizio Sarri.

After Sarri left for Chelsea from Napoli, one player followed. Jorginho. He completed his move to Chelsea for €57 million. It was a sort of a hijack deal by Chelsea as Manchester City are actually frontrunners for the Brazilian-Italian's signature. Jorginho wasn't an instant success for Chelsea. The premier league is hard to adapt. Speed and physicality is key here. Jorginho had none. People booed him, pundits dubbed him as a flop signing. Sarri stayed at Chelsea for one season. He then left to manage Juventus.

Jorginho started only so many games due to Sarri's Sarriball. He was a key part. Next season came Frank Lampard. In his style of play Jorginho didn't fit, Lampard's tactic had more speed in it. So Jorginho was benched. He was heavily criticized. People called him "Sarri's son" and that he was nothing without Sarri. Fans called for his sale, a move away from the club. Everyone started hating him.

But Jorginho is a true professional. He kept his head down and worked. Lampard lasted one and a half seasons. The came Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel understood the hard work and the ability of Jorginho. And that he can be a key figure in is 3-4-3 system. Tuchel played him, put trust in him. Jorginho began repaying that trust. His passes, his penalties are trademark. His ability to rotate the ball and controlling the tempo of the game is top tier now. He has proved himself. He has helped his club and national sides to win their respective European championships. He was a key part of it all. Yesterday night he was honored by being voted as the UEFA men's player of the year. An incredible feat for a player who has hardly welcomed by his coach and fans and was underperforming. He has came back and redeemed himself. The very same fans who booed him a couple of years ago now chant his name all around Stamford Bridge. Jorginho Frello is a youngster's case study for tomorrow's world, on how you answer your critics.
