Consistency Improves Personality
Greetings,
So many of us feel like we’re trapped in a rut. We know what to do but just can’t seem to get going. It might be that our personalities don’t match the pace of change that needs to take place in order for us to improve. If you have a more conservative mindset, you may need someone to nudge you out of your comfort zone. If you have an idea-oriented personality, chances are you need someone who is open-minded and willing to experiment with new ways of doing things. This article will discuss how personal traits like our temperament and values can affect the consistency with which we try new things and persist when faced with failure. Let’s take a look at these factors, see where they come up short when it comes to helping people improve their personality through consistent effort towards personal growth, and how other fields have dealt with these limitations.

A Brief Overview of the Personality Development Process
Personality traits are the core characteristics that makeup who we are as individuals. They are what help us make sense of our environment, have relationships with others, and form an identity for ourselves. Within our lifetime, we are constantly developing new personality traits through a process called “continuous development.” During childhood and adolescence, we try to learn about ourselves through experiments with our environment. This is where progress happens for most people. We take small risks, experiment with new things, and learn a lot about ourselves. If we have the support of a supportive environment, we are more likely to be consistent with this growth process. However, most of us don’t have the support we need to be consistent with this effort and end up leaving a lot of this growth potential untapped.

Why Consistency Is Important for Personality Growth
As we’ve discussed, personality traits are malleable. This means that, through effort and practice, we can develop new skills and change who we are. Through consistent effort, we can become more open-minded, more trusting, less stressed, and more resilient. This is important because our personalities strongly influence the environments we create for ourselves. Therefore, changing our personalities can have a large impact on our lives by helping us create better environments for ourselves. Having a more open-minded or trusting personality can allow us to be more accepting of others and grow healthier relationships. We can become more resilient through consistent effort, which means we can experience the negative events that happen in life more calmly and learn from mistakes so we are better prepared for the next challenge.
