The Beauty of STOBOSA: The Valley of Colors
STOBOSA, also known as the Valley of Colors, is a famous attraction in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines. The name STOBOSA comes from the three sitios (small communities) in the area: Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap.
Before, the houses on the hillside looked plain and ordinary. But in 2016, the Department of Tourism, local artists, and the community worked together to paint around 200 houses with bright, colorful murals. Inspired by the painted favelas (hillside communities) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this project aimed to make the area more beautiful and lively.
The paintings mostly show sunflowers and other plants that grow in the region, symbolizing hope and positivity. The project brought residents together, making them proud of their community. Today, the Valley of Colors is a popular tourist spot where visitors take photos and admire the artistic houses.
This transformation is a great example of how art and teamwork can turn a simple place into something amazing!
