Yellow Crab Spider on Twig (Thomisus onustus)
I believe this spider is harmless, so it made me feel free to get closer to this yellow crab spider that was a bit calm on twig. I used its calmness to take the photos from the closest range in which I could possibly have some macro photos. Crab spiders, (Thomisidae), the family of spiders (order Araneida) that are crablike in shape. Unlike many crabs, that often walk sideways or backward, this typical spider even walks toward me, disturbing my focus. I did not give up on it, I tried to take a good chance to capture it while it was there. Crab spiders don’t spin webs to trap insects but they ambush their prey, often laying in wait on foliage for unsuspecting bees, moths, and other insects that come to feed on flowers. It resided in the shady spot and was active when noticing the strangers. It moved here and there seeking a safe spot.
